Ruger now makes the .22LR Wranglers in just about any color as well as the Birdshead and standard models with 3.75" barrels instead of the standard 4.62". Anybody have any experience with them?

No experience with the Wrangler. I'm a Ruger fan - 1960 Single Six, a pair of Vaqueros, Speed Six, .22/45, Mini 14. I was waiting for the 3.75 barrel and standard grip in bronze. Off to Sportsmans Warehouse.

On seeing that I like birdsheads, a friend gave me his TALO Wrangler birdshead 3.75" - as mentioned, it's fun at the range. Mine clearly prefers 40 grain bullets and the front sight was canted - everyone (left or right handed, benched or offhand, regardless) shot it a bit to the right. It wasn't a big deal at 10 yards, but it got annoying further out. Just last week (after probably my sixth time out with it) I bowed to the fact that it wasn't me and - after I got home and cleaned it - used the Wyoming Sight Drifter to whack it straighter. I'm hopeful that's enough to set things right - but I'm looking forward to taking it back out and checking.

The birdshead model appeals to me because it looks like it would have a nice balance with the shorter barrel and smaller grip. I already have the three basic flavors in standard models, Black, Bronze and Silver. The Wranglers may be the best buys available in quality revolvers,

WOW! didn't know anyone out there had one of these much less knew how to use one! As far as the Wrangler goes, it saddens me that the price of the single sixes has gone up so much that Ruger has seen fit to bring out the Wrangler Line in order to sell more guns. Ditto for the demise of the 77/22 in favor of the Ruger American( a good gun by all reports-but not a 77/22).
I would buy a Ruger American in .22 lr IF IT HAD OPEN SIGHTS. I love my old boat paddle stainless 77/22 but I like the short rise of the Ruger American .22 bolt action.

You're "mistakin" on why Ruger brought out the Wrangler........It was to compete with Heritage revolver which was getting LOTS of sales.......Had noting to do wit the Single Six.

None at all. They just feel like Ruger is cashing in on the budget Zinc-alloy .22 revolver market with a nothing special but the name product. Now, if Ruger would bump the capacity up to 8 or 9 at the same price THEN I'd be interested!

Also if they offered it in .17HMR with 8 shot cylinder I'd be interested. One of my most favoritest guns is a "cheap" Chiappa 10-shot .17HMR with 7.5" barrel. It's a blast (literally) to shoot, and delivers amazing accuracy at 50 yards. Sure i'ts all Zinc-alloy but the steel cylinder, steel barrel liner, and steel where it's needed internals, but after a little inside work the action is butter smooth and trigger release crisp. Plus there is just something about shooting those tiny missle-point bullets at a clocked 2,147fps!

I get the Ruger Wrangler. Not everyone wants to pay $600 plus for a Single Six .22 revolver and Ruger seems to be doing quite well with it as far as sales are concerned and they get very good reviews as well .Good for them !
Still I think I'd rather save the extra $$ and perhaps buy a nice used Single Six .
They really are that much nicer I think.

I have a standard sized Wrangler, a Single Six, and a Bearcat. The 3.75 inch birds head Wrangler is intriguing, but nothing beats a Bearcat. It's my favorite and most accurate .22 revolver.

I agree with you on sights.
I will not buy a rifle without sights

Just found a bargain on GB for a Bronze Birdshead Wrangler. $211 to my dealer. He owes me a favor, may not even charge for transfer, maybe :D

Best to appreciate the Wrangler for what it is instead picking it apart for not being a different gun. If you don't want one there are lots of other guns on the market.
