I have had aquariums for the last 20 yrs. and in general have had good luck with fish except Platy's. I wonder if there is something I'm missing. I have Neon's, Tetras, Barbs, Corydora's, Pleco's etc. In fact one of my Corydora's is 18 yrs old. But I don't seem to have good luck with live bearers. I haven't had Mollies for a while because I've heard that they need some salt in the water, and that salt is bad for Cory's. I have a good filter, change the water frequently and keep the pH at 6.5 - 7.
Any thoughts?

Thanks,

Jeff

Bump because I'm interested.

I used to have fancy guppies when I was a kid and kept many live bearers but never kept platys for breeding.

You gotta know that sword tails were crossed with platys to get color.

As the hobby turned to salt and eventually reef tanks it seems the quality of fresh water fish has gone south. Lets not forget the African Cichlids. They are also a reason for less popularity of custom breeding fresh water fish.

I used to know breeders here and also know of a few fish farms that are no longer.

I did see some nice Guppies in Germany and in my old books it seems the Germans loved guppies. I guess they still do.

I need to remember or go back to the books to see what's happening to yours. Something sound familiar.

Tell me more about what's happening to yours and I'll hit the books.
