It is conceivable that Jones was sent to investigate the UFO. J Edgar Hoover was angry that he was never in the loop regarding UFO investigations. The Army and Navy wanted to keep all information restricted to only a few select officers within the military.
Your comment on my UFO thread was one of the most interesting. I wondered how you came by this info?
Jones was in ROTC in college and graduated as a 2nd Lt. He served 4 years in the Army as a company commander. He later joined the FBI
Sometime the Cape Girardeau incident (i'll have to research the dates again) the army attempted to draft Jones out of the FBI as he had never been drafted--came in as a volunteer previously so he was eligible for the draft apparently. Hoover was able to block it.
When Jones left the bureau in 1945, he joined the Army's /CID/Counter Intelligence Corps as a civilian investigator. The DOD treated this as a transfer but the FBI refused to turn over his personnel file. So, the DOD went to war with the FBI (and won).
