I bought a 20" 9422 from a co worker in 2005ish.

He kept it on his island property and it had a few specs here and there of minor rust but lucky for me he did not clean it well and the years of oil grunge kept it from rusting further.

shoots good but the end of the magazine tube is missing the knob/knurled thumb piece if I am saying it correctly.

I will take a pic later today but can anyone tell me how this piece attaches to the tube, what its call and if it ever sold separately?

All the images I see of mag tubes, that piece is attached and appears part of the tube.

here is a pic off the net of the end that is missing on my tube

Look in the firearms & knifes other brands section. I just bumped a good article for you from paladin.

BTW your thread will end up there. :)

The knob is held in place by the same pin that locks the inner tube into the outter tube. The pin simple passes through both parts.
I'm sure if you search around the internet you can find one. However, you may have to buy the complete inner tube.

I looked at the two I have, and it appears that the knob is pressed into the end of the tube, and secured by a press-fit pin that also serves as the tube retainer (that fits in the slot on the end of the barrel.) On mine, the inside diameter of the tube is .290, the pin is .480 long, with one side flush with the outside diameter of the tube, the other end extends to provide the locking function. The pin diameter is .092. I'd bet that you'll have to buy the entire tube assembly. Whatever, the 9422 is my "crown jewel" of 22 lever action rifles - worth the cost and effort to replace.

Kinda wondering if my tube is after market because it's a smooth end on the tube unlessthe knob fits over the end.

By "smooth" are you saying that it's a solid end, not hollow ? Is the pin there? Is the spring installed?

if Winchester tubes are other than bare metal finish with a dark red follower…..this is an aftermarket tube.

The previous owner did not take good care of this rifle even though it shoots good. Looks like I also need a front sight hood.

From the pics, it looks like you have a complete assembly, perhaps a later configuration. I know it's not an earlier design, because both of mine were the very first models made, and have the tube like in the first pics. If it works, and accepts cartridges, why replace it??

Looking to sell (probably...not 100% sure yet. I have a Win trapper 9422 also but its a 90s model) and want to address any potential issues.
