I was checking out the new S&W catalog for 2013 and have noticed a few things so far;

1. They have a new PC 'gunsmoke' 637 with a factory bobbed hammer and some other interesting features.

2. They appear to no longer offer the six-shooter version of the 686 2.5", only the PLUS version.

Has anybody else noticed anything else interesting?

Here's the link if you haven't seen the 2013 catalogs yet:

Still no "classic" semi-autos yet! And I'll pass in the "Gunsmoke Special" too. But that 627 PC snub is talking to me! Dale

Yea, that 627 PC snub looks sharp - lotta nice features. I wonder how much wider, for IWB, it is with that 8 round cylinder compared to my 60-9?

About like comparing a battleship to a frigate M3!;) But it can be done in the right rig.
I was thinking truck gun, HD, and woods walking. And if Ill. ever gets a CCW, might just try it out. Dale

It is cute, but I would still rather have a Centennial than a bobbed hammer for pocket/purse carry

I want the Model 640

Now that I will be carrying a revolver exclusively here in New York, I am going to order the Model 640 with no internal lock and the night sights which is cut for full moon
clips. That seems to be the best all around small frame revolver for CCW. I will call my stocking dealer tomorrow. Thanks for posting the catalog.

I saw the new catalog on their website when i was trying to find something else on Friday january 25th 2013 i immediately sent an email requesting it. I hope it gets here asap.

Looks like the 617 is now offered in 10-shot only. No more 617 six-shooters.

The M15 Classic Combat Masterpiece was dropped. They probably sold 10x more stainless M67s than blued M15s.

Also looks like the 686+ is the mainstay model and the 686 is relegated to 2nd string. Again, they probably sell at lot more of the 7-shot version.

Sorry to hear of your location.

The 640 is certainly a nice gun. While I'd definitely like the night sights (depending on the 640 selected) on that gun, I suspect I'd still prefer the 642's weight and it's 1/4" or 3/8" less length over the improved sights.

That 642 just disappears in my pockets, which is the reason to carry a J-frame, imo. And even the length of the 642 is a slight problem with some pants pocket.

I like the concept of the PC bobbed hammer 637, but the execution leaves me cold. Does anyone really like the "gunsmoke" etc **** etched on the gun? Some of the stuff S&W puts out these days does so not appeal to me.
Clip grips are fine for those that like them, but some sort of boot grip (the discontinued Uncle Mikes or the newer "fishscales") would be more univerally appreciated.
I do really like a bobbed-hammer gun for concealed carry, more so than a centennial style gun, but I think I'll stick to my vintage bobbed 36 & 60 Chiefs. Next one will be a vintage model 37 (bobbed, of course) to match them.

Dang, don't scare me like that! Still listed. Both versions. (I've a Centennial version on the wishlist at the LGS.)

im not meaning to scare you, but i still dont see it in the 2013 catalog.
i have one, you wont be disappointed.
