That's about the only way you could make out better than I did (no brag, just fact).

The DEAL. A kitchen table FFL in Seattle is expanding into a brick and mortar (literally!) store, and he needed a nice sign design for out front (in scalable vector format for a sign maker to cut vinyl from). Several people from our state gun forum sent him ideas, and he liked mine best. So, in exchange for a CD with several formats of my design, he provided me with a 5906 he otherwise sells for $349 (with tupperware case and one OEM mag), paid the state tax, and absorbed the FFL fee!

The PISTOL. It's not perfect - there are holster wear spots where the satin finish is shiny (I'll blast it with glass bead since I have the equipment and media), and the Hogue grips are too big for my short fingers (so I bought Uncle Mike's grips).

"NECESSORIES". For no good reason, I bought one of those $12 service holsters, and a $49 915 slide to experiment with (e.g., replacing the rear sight with a 1.5" length of picatinny rail for mounting a laser sight and maybe a red dot).

I get a kick out of referring to it as my "free gun" and it's nice that it uses the same ammo as my TNW ASP (AR-style pistol).

Why don't those sorts of things ever happen to me? :(

That's kind of how I got my 6906, actually. A friend needed a favor, I did it for him, he gave me the 6906 in exchange. That wasn't the deal. It was his idea to give me a reward; I was doing the favor regardless.

Good job!

My uncle got paid with a Mini 14 back in the 80's. Sounds like a great way to get paid!

I've done off the books auto repair, many years ago, charging by the six pack.
Don't really drink anymore.
I have done work for guns.

I once got a blued 8 and 3/8 inch M25 in 45 Colt in exchange for installing an electric door lock on a gun shop. That was the early 80ties and I wish I had it back today.
