Probably moving there soon. The fiancee's family is in the area but doesn't live in Paducah. Well, not the gun owning ones.

Anyway, what's the gun culture and life like?

Bit bummed. I have a host of good gun stores here in Lexington and Bud's range along with my buddy's family farm down in Nicholasville to shoot at. Have to start all over in Paducah. Still, the reasons to go there are far more important.

GOOD area.

Check out Shooter's Supply - Large inventoy.
Also have Gander Mountain and Dick's.

Paducah is 50 miles on highway for me.

Many good resturants.
Good thrift shops for bargain hunting.
Kirchoff Bakery / Market House Theater / Symphony / Carson Center for live performances / Quilters ONE Week in the spring / River fron park with benches and tables for loafing / Barbeque on River (one weekend in fall)

Streets are NOT square with the world. (NOT NS / EW)
Squared with respect to the river front.

PM for any specific questions - I MIGHT know the answer.

I actually visited the Gander Mountain last month. Typical Gander Mountain.

Have to check out Shooter's Supply. Heard of it before.

My fiancee's dad and mom live out by Marion and he knows some other little places out that way.

Know anywhere to shoot? Any ranges on state land?

I've liked the area when I visited and it's always been her favorite. Job market seems decent. Coming from Michigan it's hard not to but still, decent jobs and opportunity.

Used to be a great town for fine Western Kentucky-style barbecue. Can't comment on it today, but the western part of the state has a great barbecue tradition.

There's a fine restaurant here owned by a family that served 'cue in Paducah for forty years or more.

Thanks all. I'll have to check into this stuff.

Funny you mention the barbecue. I'm trying to think of the name but I know who you are talking about. Have the two stores, one down town and the other old, tiny diner sorta place out by the park. Her grandmother picks up some every time we come out there. I'd never heard of barbecue ham until I first went to Paducah.

Your description sounds like Starnes BBQ.

Backwoods BBQ out toward the mall is also GREAT.

The BBQ place toward south side of Marion is pretty good.

You might want to sign up for the Judging Class for Barbecue on the River. (There is a Fee) After class you will be Certified to judge each year. Amazing how many ribs I can eat while judging ten submissions.

Stairn's that's it!

Her dad used to do competitive barbecue. If you did it 10+ years ago you may have eaten some of his. Dunno if my waist can handle it.

Her mom said that place in Marion is good. We've had a bit of their food.
Speaking of Marion her dad likes that Tactical something store downtown.

Since this is a gun related forum, I should mention that Remington has a manufacturing plant located in Hickory - just outside of Mayfield. This plant had some lay offs recently. Had been running three shifts.

Not sure which models they make. I am sure that the plant makes the 597 22LR rifles. ( It says so on the barrel of mine.)

That's partly why Kentucky is rated the fifth most gun-friendly state in the country. There's also a tradition over 200 years old of gun ownership and use.

.

Already have a CCDW.

Isn't that plant where the Marlins are being made now?

Kentucky, where even the Democrats are armed.
