Among the effects of a deceased friend is a samurai sword.

It looks like a machine made sword, obviously diminishing the value significantly.

It's in a military scabbard, brown leather with one hanger ring and snaps to keep it in place.

The blade is in fair to poor condition with some nicks in the blade and moderate surface rust.

Supposedly, it was brought back from the Pacific after WWII. If I had to bet, I'd say that if genuine, it came from some NCO or not very well off junior officer, likely the former.

I didn't have a chance to photograph it yet, but will probably do so on Thursday.

Anybody want to hazard a VERY rough guess as to value?

Thanks.

I know there are some VERY valuable ones, fake ones and "experts" to tell you. Even common bringbacks need to be individually appraised. Hazard would't help till you get the pics up. Have fun!

Tough without pictures but a NCO type 98 sword in very good condition can go as high as $1,000.00 depending on the variation . Most are in the $500.00 - $700.00 range .One with the condition issues you state will go for much less. If it is a real NCO sword there should be a serial # just before the handle the same # should also be on the top of the scabbard. I do hope you can post pictures.:)
