I have always loved old fishing gear and have much of what I fished with in the 60s/70s and beyond. I recently inherited a lot of old gear, including 4 tackle boxes of lures dating back to the 1040s. I am overwhelmed with cleaning them up and trying to identify what they are. Does anyone have any websites that might help other than Ebay which has many examples?

Try this
Fishing Lure Collectibles

Or this
Antique Lure Reference Material

Your local library may have books such as these also.

I like Quantum 381 Crankin Reels. I used to do a lot of shiner fishing on Lake Okeechobee and that 381 is an awful good shiner reel. Has magnum gears and a slow retrieve so you could winch the hogs out.

Yea my dad but he is as vintage as the tackle he owns.He started collecting and fishing in 1946 and back then i think he said they had to whitle every lure with their teeth and don't even ask how and where they got the flies to fly fish with.

Yep, I do. Am member of National Fishing Lure Collectors Club and Carolina Antique Tackle Collectors. Will trade S&W & Colt for certain quality antique lures...

I used to collect it until some guy gave me a sad story about how he had no money for food and nothing to fish with...so I gave all of my tackle to him..later on I found out he was a collector...he conned me...and I fell for it, hook, line and sinker.

I have some nice wooden lures from the 40s and 50s. I used to have my Dad's and Grandpa's lures. They were in a tackle box in my Mom's garage. While visiting her last year, I went to get it to bring it home with me and, you guessed it, gone. I still have a few that I had in another box. The long skinny green one in the top center compartment is a Creek Chub Gar Minnow, used mainly in Florida in the late 20s and 30's. They're pretty rare.

I don't "collect", but I do rebuild split bamboo fly rods. Strip down, straighten, install new guides, grips, reel seats, etc. I then use them.

Don't do anything real fancy, but do some signature wraps with 3-5 (or more) wraps. Less than three wraps to too tricky for me.
