Got the below in an email. I know nothing else about it.





S&W 44 Magnum accident


A guy came into the police department the other day to ask a favor.
He had a S&W 629 (.44 Mag) that he wanted to dispose of after a mishap at the range.
He said there was a loud bang when he tested his new ammo, (Chinese-made), and the
gun smacked him in the forehead, leaving a nice gash.
When the tweety birds cleared from around his head, the pictures show what he saw.
Bet he never uses Chinese made ammo again!
Looks like when the round in the chamber went off, it also set off at least two other rounds in adjacent cylinders.
I would have hated to been the one that pulled the trigger on that one!!!








Why in the heck would he
EVER want to "dispose" of it?

He needs to mount it as his "LUCKY CHARM."

If it was a piece of crap Chinese-made handgun, his
face would have been blown off as well. Bet he
didn't think about THAT!!!!

Yes, That picture has had more than one story attached to it and it has been around here a few times. I don't think it was Chineese ammo though. I think it was internet load data.

Yes, this has been posted (several times) on the Forum. The story keeps on changing, but if you read the message an S & W 629 is not a "Chinese made handgun" last time I checked. Also, I don't believe I've seen Chinese made ammo in any non-military caliber, unlike the Russians.

I believe the conclusion from the original post was a handloader's powder overcharge.

It is still a very sobering picture. That is a good reason I am so cautious and go a little overboard with using a scale for everything I load. This never needs to be my story or picture being circulated around!!!

Actually this was a result of a mistimed 44 Magnum "Turducken" load. Never heard of a 44 Mag "turducken", it's a very rare and finicky custom hand load.

What you do is start out with a 44 Magnum bullet bored and sized for a 38 +P cartridge that has been previously bored for a 22 Magnum. Press the previously assembled 38 +P and 22 Mag into the 44 mag bullet, drop a small ball bearing into the flash hole in the 44 Mag case, add powder and press in and crimp the turducken. Note, spacing of the assembled components is critical as it effects the timing of the 3 stages.

The goal is to have the 38 +P fire just about 1/2 inch from the muzzle crown, 4 feet later the 22 Mag should cook off. As for why, when done perfectly you get a 22 Mag 44 grain bullet traveling at 4800 fps.

As mentioned, timing is critical. I suspect in this case the 38 +P fired prematurely while it was still in the 44 mag case. You can see the results..

Slick Willie Clinton stop all imports of Chinese ammo as retaliation for Tiananmen Square protests of 1989. Also I don't think they ever imported chinese 44 mag ammo..

I'm gonna call BS on the link posted, these pics have been floating around on the net for a lot longer than one year. It would take some digging but I believe that this was posted on this forum at least 18 months ago, which predates Mike82's post by at least 6 months.
