Anyone else here make 1911 grips????

When I was in the service I made a lot of 1911 grips just to kill time when
we would get stuck static on FBs. I got wood from dinks, a wood they used
to make various plaques they sold GIs. Similar to Coca Bola. Once in a while would get ahold of other hard wood and made some out of plexi glass. I would either give them away or sell for a few bucks. The most popular were those with Vietnamese coins inlayed in grips. With the tools I
had availible 1911 grips were easiest to make. I've made a few pairs since
I have a stack of nice black walnut I rough cut fot the purpose and have a
1/8" plate pattern to drill the holes.

Very nice work. I am a retired Chief of Police in CO. I carried a custom 1911 as a work gun for many years and still love them over all the plastic wonder 9mm's out there although I own some of them. I would love to have a nice set of your grips on my custom CT Brian 1911 to dress it up.

Thanks. I can't think of a set of my grips on a CT Brian. He does some incredible custom work. Now, if I had a CTB, that would be a whole 'nuther ballgame. I see you live in Cedaredge. One of my best friends lives near Montrose, and the wife and I go out there every summer for some R&R. Beautiful country out there.
