I went to the range the other day to put a couple pistols through their paces, and randomly grabbed some boxes of my "range ammo" without looking closely beforehand.

The new guns tried out- my worn-in P226, which is a rough looking shooter but in good shape where it counts, and my son's friend brought his new Shield. My son also brought his CZ 75.

My son's friend brought a box of WWB, and the rest was Sellier and Bellot 115 gr, and then Yavex 124 gr FMJ. The Yavex I got on sale awhile back at Bud's, and the boxes look very similar to Blazer Brass (black and gold boxes, similar layout etc). It is made in Turkey, has green lacquer sealing the primer and cases, brass 124 gr FMJ, non-magnetic.

Everything went as expected, until we started in on the Yavex with the fullsize guns; and the change was very noticeable. The report went from a normal "bang" to a deeper "boom" like a 45 almost, and we were getting 10 inch fireballs with each shot, something I normally don't see with the CZ. The Sig is new to me, but it went from a normal type range experience to spitting fire too. No problems cycling for either gun, it did seem to have more recoil, and accuracy stayed fine... if anything it might have improved :)

The difference in ammo was noticed by others, not just us. A couple of people who were there and previously not paying attention stopped and looked as we put a few mags through the Sig and the CZ.

It was a pronounced enough difference that my son's friend didn't run any through his Shield, said he didn't want to beat the gun up unnecessarily... he wasn't being silly, just careful since he was just putting the first couple mags through it.

I know S&B tends to run hotter than WWB and Blazer, and I've shot some of the white box S&B with the NATO stamp, and that didn't seem to act like this Yavex stuff either. It WAS consistent, just consistently "more" than the other stuff. The guns were pretty clean after shooting, his Shield (with the WWB) was dirtier, even though it wasn't shot as much.

Anyone else shoot this, have similar experiences? Is the flash just the powder burning more visibly?

Thanks for any input; I think I'm going to earmark this stuff for just our CZs and my Sig. I don't want to rattle some of the older guns apart...

I've chronographed a bunch of 9MM, but am not familiar Yavex ammo. I have learned that greater muzzle blast and flash doesn't always equate to higher velocities, etc. Sometimes it is just extra noise and flash, due to the powder used, and not really producing any more velocity/energy/"power" than loads of similar velocity using another powder.......

Yeah, I've wondered about that. It IS a consistent round, but just might be "flashy".

I suppose I should get a chronograph; I don't reload (yet), but I do shoot different brands, through different guns, some that are old. It wouldn't hurt to get a more accurate idea of what's going down the pipes on these guns.

Any recommendations for a good, yet cheap one?

Probably 9NATO round. Same reason for the green sealant

I have used the cheapest Chrony for the past 13 years, it still does all I need done. Not the best choice for someone who plans to do a lot of chronographing, but for occasional use, it can't be beat. I don't know the current price, but less than $100.

yeah, I think I'm going to order one on Amazon, since I have Prime and things ship free and arrive in 2 days. I think I've seen them around $80, or so. I will probably get the cheapest one that has a bunch of reviews.
Not if it gave more muzzle flash than conventional ammo.
Really the first time I've noted significant muzzle flash from the CZ. My son took some cellphone video of me shooting, and while the quality isn't great, it's visible in his videos.

Big white flash, which is what I perceived while shooting. I've seen orangish flash with some rifles, and some Chinese Makarov ammo threw a lot of orange sparks, but this is the first time I've had a pure white flash.

Just FYI, YAVEX 9mm is not NATO ammo.

YAVEX USA (YAVEX LLC) of Ft. Myers FL which was the U.S. distributor of the ammo appears to be no more. Their website has also disappeared. So if you like this ammo get it now as it'll probably disappear very soon from the market.

Yeah, I stumbled onto this stuff a little while back. Shot some of the 115 gr stuff, which did seem to have a bit stouter recoil, perhaps I just didn't notice the flash, or perhaps it was different.

Later, I came across the deal at Buds as they were closing it out; something like $260 for a case of 1450 rds (they put 29 boxes of 50 in it), for the 124 gr stuff. Advertised as sealed case and primers.

I ordered one case, thought about it a bit, and the price dropped about $3 (and Bud's gave me a coupon code too). So I ordered a second case of 1450. As it came out a little under $9 a box of 50, I figured it was as good a deal on brass as I could find, including buying reloads online. I looked into Yavex (the parent Turkish company), and ... their documentation looks legit and good, at least. Appears to be a large company making munitions and explosives, marketing at that corner of the globe. Might not be NATO stamped officially, but the Turks are in a serious hotspot, and I went with the assumption that they weren't making garbage.

I think I can verify- this ammo is indeed, quite good. Outside of flash, it is very consistent, pretty clean, and seems to have a stout load. I wouldn't fret a bit with it in a military (non-HP bullet) role, whether pistol or SMG.
