I am and have also had the honor of also speaking with the Hero of Pork Chop Hill himself (though he denies it ;-)) Joseph Gordon Clemmons Jr. He retired as a Colonel and is having a nice life in retirement along with his Wife Cecil. He is one of many Veterans I am thinking of this day as well as his Brother in Law--Walt Russell--who also happened to be on Pork Chop Hill during the famous battle in 1953. Both and their wives-are doing very well.

Also, for those who are familiar with the movie which starred Gregory Peck as the then--Lt. Joseph Clemmons) that you will be hopefully interested in knowing that the movie was as real as it could possibly be made-thanks to Joe-who was the Military Adviser to the movie and had been a Captain at the time the movie was made. Colonel Clemmons has told me that what you see portrayed in the movie--DID in fact happen.

My salute goes to all our military-past and present as well as for the men of K, L and E Companies who were on that damned hill.

If anybody is interested in a few photos? ill gladly try to get them here.

I remember the movie very well. I am glad to hear that both men and their wives are doing well.

Pork Chop Hill? Are you kidding? I viewed it at my local town theater when I was 8 or 9 years old and that was all I talked about for months! It was my favorite film. I am glad to hear the real players from the battle are still doing well.

Thank you. Also, Joe told me that Lt. Ohashi had passed away after having a heart attack while playing golf. This was around 20 or so years ago. Suki had left the Army after the war and became a Lawyer and lived in Ohio.

Glad im not kidding. Walt was badly injured in Vietnam and had been shot in the head. The Doctors had told him he would never walk again. Joe told me that Walt said: "Like Hell I am." Well, these days he moves around as well as he ever did.

The bit with Pvt Franklin actually happened as depicted in the movie as well as 99% of what you do see on screen. The bunker scene was difficult to do due to some technicalities but--they were trapped inside and the Chinese did use flamethrowers to try to burn them out. They did toss sand bags wherever the flames were burning.

Oh and for those who are interested in trivial details? Joe does still enjoy his raisins.

I respect the actual soldiers a lot. But Gregory Peck was one of the nastier anti-gunners in Hollywood. I think his politics in general were pretty "left."

I have never seen the movie, but should. Maybe YouTube has clips?

The movie is an excellent one. It was also on AMC this morning as I was about to leave to Wm to bag more 9mm.

Anyway, on Greg's politics. He WAS a left-leaning actor but had the class not to impose his beliefs on others. Others that were in his category include: Charlton Heston, Jon Voight and Brad Pitt. However, we all know they ended up with another PoV.

Missed it today, had to be in the VA office. Was a great movie and have seen it several times.
