My Snap-On 1/4" Shank Carbide Burr Set has about had it. It lasted a while but they Snap-on Guy said they are not warranted and is asking $330 for a new set of 8 Burrs . I found a set of American Made identical Double Cut 100% Carbide Burrs from Atlas (made in CT USA) and was wondering if anyone here has actually used a set of them. They are literally 1/2 the price, made here and come in a wooden case. I would like to get some feedback if possible. Thanks. :)

Chief, with almost 40 years in the Boilermakers, we always used burrs as consumables. Granted, once in a while you'd find one that performed better than its sisters, but after 3 or 4 days of use a new one was needed.

Try your local welding shop. Or McMaster-Carr or Grainger.

As to brand, I think there are only a few choices of manufacturer. Everybody sells them, very few make them.

Chief, agree with the above; burrs, like lathe and mill tooling, are "consumables". A little bit of online research will tell you that the American, Japanese, and European ones tend to be better and last longer than the Chinese ones available most places. They will also be more expensive. You get what you pay for.

This morning I ordered a set of 10pcs. 1/4" shank, Double Cut, 100% Carbide Burrs from Atlas Cutting Tools in the metal case (all made in CT, USA). The cost for all 10pcs. and the case was $106 and I should have them on Tuesday.

My old Snap-on set (not covered under the S-O warranty as they consider it a "consumable product") was 8 pieces and did last a long time, but at $331 to replace them it encouraged me to seek out a new source. If the new set lasts as long, the 10 pc. set for $106 is a steal!! I'll update after some hard use.
