I was given an old Case knife the other day and after cleaning it up I wanted to see if anyone knew what the model was and maybe how old it might be.

I bought this case knife used out of a pawn shop 2 or 3 years ago for $20 or $25s. I seen another exactly like it about a month ago in a different pawn shop, same condition for $250s! I could hardley belive it! I have two other ones like it I have had for many years. Here is some good info.

Here is another single blade case I have. I have a similar one I found by a deer gut pile that some hunter dropped about 50 years ago. I need to get a stag handle replaced on that one. This one has a centennial marking on it.

I looks like a blade is missing on the OP knife. The bail is missing for sure and I am pretty sure that the screw driver/cap lifter blade is missing. Will you show a shot of the liner interior side. There should also be a pattern number, perhaps 64045R. 6=bone, 4=#blades, 0= a variation and 45=pattern # and R=bail.

You're right, not sure how I missed it there is a fourth blade missing. I could not find any numbers at all, but definitely there is a blade missing.

Red's right--a blade--likely a cap lifter--is missing or broken. There should also be a bail. The hole in the bolster opposite the main blade is where the bail should be.

It's a Scout or Camper Pattern, and an old one. 40s to 60s? That type can opener might help narrow it down. That pattern knife and can opener was fairly common in the war but I'm not sure if Case made that knife for the services like Camillus, PAL and a few others did. The scales are almost certainly bone.

Is there anything stamped on the tang under "CASE", like two "Xs"? Red, I think that knife may predate the model stamps, but I could be wrong about that. Were the XX knives model stamped? Shows what I know.

There are guys that know a lot about old Cases. If someone doesn't come along with a better date and if you want I can post a pic of it on a pocketknife site I belong to (or give you the address if you want to join it--it's called All About Pocket Knives) and those guys can narrow it down. Very knowledgeable and friendly folks there.

It's well used but a really neat old knife.
