Neighbor lady gave me some kohlrabi. I do like turnips and understand that the kohlrabi is similar in taste. She did mention that she did not care for it in soup.

My dad used to boil turnips and salt and pepper them. Any other ideas on how I should cook this?

They are real tasty just peeled, sliced, and eaten, like radishes. Good in salads that way. No cooking really neccessary. Hard to find in grocery stores any more.

That's the way I like them...maybe with some sort of seasoned salt or something like that. You can also julienne them and add to a cole slaw. The wife says you can cook and mash them and mix them with potatoes also.

I found it funny that she asked me to pick up a couple when I went grocery shopping this morning....when I got home i found this thread! (store didn't have any). Time to start hitting the local farmer's markets!

kohlrabi

Similar to cole crops to grow. They like cool weather and not hot weather.

I found they are tasty, but no more so than cabbage or turnips.

If planted too late when the weather warms up the plants will go to seed.
