I have a few boxes of this ammo and was looking around for info on it, (on the web) and came up empty. Anyone know anything about it?

Your S&W .45 ACP ammo is from the late 1970's - early 1980's. S&W and Fiocchi bought out Alcan (Alton, IL) and started producing ammo under the S&W-Fiocchi brand in 1972. I bought 2 boxes of 9 mm ammo around 1975 that were headstamped "S&W-F". Fiocchi left or was bought out and S&W produced ammo under their own name after that and moved the plant to Rock Creek, OH. They stopped ammo production around 1980-1982 and I think .45 ACP was a late addition to their lineup. They also manufactured and sold primers. I don't think they manufactured their own brass, but did sell component brass with the S&W head stamp. I have 4 boxes of it that I got on eBay when you could still sell anything on eBay. It's stamped "S&W .38 SPL +P" and is nickel plated.

Does this stuff have any value outside of regular ammo prices?

People collect everything but unlikely there will be a rush to buy the ammo but you might find a market for a few empty boxes. I see it a gun shows often. As a previous dealer, I was “forced” to purchase cases of S&W ammo to get my allocation of handguns from my distributors.

It is fairly common in all calibers loaded. I wouldn't attribute much if any premium value over new ammunition prices. That might be different 50 years from now. I have quite a few 50 round boxes of S&W .38 Special and .357 ammunition, also several bricks of .22 LR. I would have to look, but I believe all had nickeled cases. I sort of remember that some rifle ammunition came in 10 round packs but I don't have any of it. I think there may also have been shotshells, have none of those either.

I used to see it regularly in the 1980's. I think if it were mine I would shoot it and use the brass. As said above it's not that special and won't command a premium over new stuff.

I agree…….it’s just that I have no desire to shoot 185gr. .45 ACP semi-wadcutters, in a semi-auto.

I have had a few of those 10 round rifle ammo packs. Very flimsy plastic packages but the ammo was good. Got an assortment from a local shop dirt cheap years ago, 30-30, 270, 30-06 and 308. They had had it for a while and just wanted to clear it out. Shot up most of it, kept a box or two of each which I later traded to another cartridge collector who was trying to do a grouping of S&W ammo. I agree, no significant premium to most people. Not old or rare enough for most and finding someone who is specifically collecting S&W ammo is a long shot. I would probably keep one for my general ammo collection and shoot the rest,
