Hi Everyone,

I'm pretty new here, although I read threads for a while before I signed up.

Like a lot of you, I've been rather annoyed at the media bias trying to convince everyone we don't "need" to be able to own military style weapons because they are just designed to kill as many people as possible in a short amount of time. Earlier today I came up with an idea that I think could do a lot to dispel that misconception.

I've sent an e-mail to a local pistol and rifle club about my idea, but if there are any members on here in the durham area, I'd like to discuss this with you. Especially anyone with experience shooting and editing video.

Thanks,
Todd

The media is saying an assault rifle is designed to let you kill the most people possible in the shortest amount of time.

That is false. Clearly they are designed to be ergonomic, and to allow a person to shoot accurately and quickly in a high stress situation.

I want to get a few physically fragile non-shooters, basically grandmother types or people with arthritis, who are not experienced shooters, and video tape how well they do protecting themselves against paper targets with a .38 revolver, S&W M&P, a .22 bolt action rifle, a 15-22 with an eotech.

I also want to video tape them trying to hit a moving target too. I am willing to sacrifice my son's old R/C Pickup truck for that.

For the stationary target, there won't be any scenario. People can fill in their own. For the moving target, I'd tell the shooter they are walking on their ranch with their grandchild and a rabid coyote is coming at them. I figure wild animal rather than man on man, because people need to know there are situations where an assault style rifle is the best choice, and to stop considering only home invasions in a city or the rare mass shooting crimes.

I don't know the results, but I can predict that we would show that Senator Feinstein's bill will deprive many people of the only weapon that they can comfortably and accurately shoot.

I already have most of what is needed to do this, and I wrote to the Durham Rifle and Pistol club to see if they would allow something like this to be shot at their range. I'm just looking for some local and educated individuals to help with this. Add humor and reality to the situations.

Oh, I'd then like to post the video to youtube, send it to CNN and Piers Morgan, and also to a few others media sources.

I think if it is done as a response to the misconceptions and false information being put forward, and if it comes from many individuals who all are perceived as "normal and respectable", it may get more traction.

Doctors, lawyers, business owners, teachers ...

Open to suggestions!

I'm in Guilford County but still not close enough to be of any assistance. Sounds like a good idea tho.

I'm in Hillsborough. Highpoint isn't that far. I suspect this would be a day project, and might be fun to produce. People and a place to shoot the video are the biggest hurdles.

Wow, I'm not asking for money guys. Just a little advice and possibly help making a video that could positively affect the current debate on assault style rifles and magazines.
This is something that will take a couple of hours to video tape. Nobody is interested?
