Anyone notice the rebirth of the 10mm lately?

The rebirth of the 10mm (Don Johnson) round/pistols. They seem to be all the rage again. I wish I had not sold all mine off now. I had the 10xx set except for the unicorn 1046. I even had a stolen FBI issued 1076 for about 3 weeks until it was confiscated.. that's a story in itself. ( unintended stolen purchase that was vetted through 2 FFLs). I might just pick one up again. ( Not a stolen 1076,.. a 10xx pistol) I really think it's a great Bad guy stopping round . But the 40 cal had less recoil so it won the decade(s). ( IMO) Now the 40 cal has too much recoil so it's down to the 9mm. At least that's how I interpret the lowest common denominator mentality that pervades our culture.

I was a Miami Vice fan back in my late 20s and early 30s. Don Johnson used the 10mm Bren Ten, then later a 645 and finally a 4506. Had it stayed on a little longer we would likely have seen Sonny Crocket with a 1006 or even a 1076!

...yep...

...and I'd like to have one...

...preferably a Sig P220 in Kryptek Camo...the Hunter series...

I have loved the 10mm for years. My favorite is the EAA Witness (mine has 10mm with a .40 conversion barrel and a .45 conversion as well.)

You're showing your age when you talk about Miami Vice . You'd think with a name like 10mm , it would be an ungodly terror in the recoil dept. But it's not really , not even in my CS10 . Then you look at the prices they get for them . I have a 1006 and a 1076 also and they are great guns . I can see how you regret letting yours go . Old Don was the man back then , wasn't he ? I bet he could have had just about any woman he wanted . Remember how the bars were filled with guys dressed like him ? And the famous 2 day shadow ?

My guys at work (5 of them) have longslide Glock 10mm pistols. They swear by them. One is using a Beretta carbine in .40 as a basis for a 10mm build. We were talking mags and STI makes a mag that fits the Beretta Carbine but he will have to do some mods. It is definitely making a comeback.

Glock 29, I bought a dozen years ago, when Glock was just about the sole maker of 10's.
Last few years I noticed other makers 10's showing up in display counters. RIA 1911s and Glock 20s mostly.
Personal wishlist is a L frame 10.

Quite the opposite. I work for the largest FFL in the SE doing gun shows. 10mm guns do not sell, & most vendors do not carry any. We have a few only because we carry everything. 40 S&W is also getting hard to sell. We buy huge lots of used LE 40 cal guns. We get them cheap, & only sell a few at any show, & we sell 500 firearms every show. So here in Florida, 10mm, & 40 S&W are as popular as last weeks newspaper. GARY

Not a rebirth, never died, just never became mainstream, too much of a specialty item. I started out with the 1006 I currently have, a 1076 long gone, a Megastar 10mm long gone-piece of junk-unsupported case head, a Colt Double Eagle 10mm long gone-too rare to shoot, and a pre-lock 610.
I reload 10mm and 40S&W.

I do hear that from everyone trying to sell me one.

I've been a fan of the 10 for quite a while. It started with plastic then I found some steel. Now I hope to find a 610 without a hole in the side.

Love my 10mms. Have a few from different gunmakers. It's the only semi auto caliber I shoot. My favorite is my Virginia State Police issued 1076. My most carried is my G29, followed by my "1053." The XDM 10mm is a really sweet piece. Traded my G20 because a deal came up in my favor, but that gun was sweet too.

I'd give anything for a single stack M&P 10mm.

I think people are finally coming to the realization that the 10mm Auto caliber is the semi-auto pistol version of revolvers chambered in 357 Magnum. You can reload or buy the FBI load for low recoil, urban defensive purposes, or you can reload or buy full power loads for woods defensive/hunting purposes. It is a highly versatile caliber.

Me and Ted appreciate the 10mm's attributes. Every year at the NRA convention when he stops by our booth, the 10mm topic always comes up. He's taken a lot of game with his G20.
