I just read the article about the UTS-15 in the latest American Rifleman magazine.

Wondering if anyone has one or any experience with one. I really like the ability to choose either tube or the ability to select one side only. You could have slugs on one side and shot on the other. I am thinking that it would make an exceptional home defense gun or good for a SHTF event.

Lets hear your thoughts.

My LGS sold one...customer brought it back broken a few weeks later. Not sure why we still have it instead of returning it.

Sent from somewhere between the Ohio territory and the neutral zone.

My doc friend bought one when they first became available. Paid $1700. Seems overly bulky, way more so with 14 rds aboard. I haven't shot it but he has. Says little recoil, feeds well, handling changes as it empties, sort of like the Glock. Joe

Thanks guys. Looking on GB, the price seems to have come down a bit although, I don't know what options were included in the $1,700 gun. The carry bag is extra, the choke or barrel extention is extra as well as the flashlight/laser option. According to the company web site the carry case is like $80 and the flashlight/laser is around $229 IIRC. The lowest one I saw on GB was around $950 to $975 with shipping. Not cheap, but for some reason I really like the idea of 15 rounds in a short barrel shotgun for home defense either for normal times or in the event that the SHTF.

I read that one major drawback is due to the barrel being placed below the two tube magazines and therefore the POI was like 7" low at 25 yards. Sights can be added that might improve accuracy however, they are extra priced options like the laser and carry bag.

Seriously thinking about grabbing one before MA decides to make them illegal so any other input before laying down $1,000  would be appreciated.

No offense to Jeff Quinn, but he seems to like everything he reviews...

That's because he only takes time out to review firearms that he thinks are worth reviewing. Hickok45 does the same thing too. They don't waste their time reviewing junk, then writing a negative review, and making a negative video. I forget if it is Jeff or Hickok, but one of them had started testing a new firearm, became irritated, and decided not to do the review completely.

They maintain an upbeat and pleasing demeanor and produce a nice feel,
seems smart to me.

I have a friend who would do reviews for super high end audio.

Very discerning and critical, but if he found a product that was unacceptable he would decline to submit that review.

He would sometimes contact the manufacture, designer or distributor directly to give them feedback.

I've been considering the UTS as well as the KSG. The one thing I don't like about the UTS is how it ejects. The ejection port is on the right side and pretty far back. As a lefty this would have the empties ejecting about 1/4" in front of my nose. I don't like that.

The KSG ejects out the bottom.

The UTS alternates between magazines. So, one shot from one and the next shot from the other. I don't know if this can be set to use just the one magazine.

The KSG has to be manually switched from one mag to the other.

As of now, I'm leaning toward the KSG.

my LGS has UTS15's in stock at 1100 each. I fiddled with one a week ago and it seems nice (bad for a lefty though). They stopped getting KSG's because of reliability issues and said they've had better luck with the UTS15. I prefer the looks of the KSG myself but haven't been able to play with one yet. That said the UTS seems nice and light to me (although that was unloaded). I'd still like to mess with a KSG personally before I'd make a final decision.
