I was wondering if anyone has mounted a flip up front sight gas block on their MP 15-22 barrel? Something like the YHM one. Heres a pick of a AR build(with a YHM flip up front sight/gas block) I did for my son for his 14th birthday:

If anyone has done something like this with their MP 15-22, please respond with pics and how well its been working. When I get mmy MOE version I'm thinking of doing this and was looking for info on how well it works and secure it is.

Thanks!:)

why do you want to put a gas block sight on a gun that does not have/need a gas block?

I don't want to mount the front sight on the handguard. I would like to have the option of flipping it up or not and it would also make the MP 15-22 "look" more like a real AR. I understand it doesn't use/need a gas block. I've seen guys mount a fixed front sight on the barrel and have been wondering if anyone has done this yet with a "flip up" version yet.

You will need to make a shim because the 15-22 barrel is smaller than the standard AR barrel. All the front sights I see here Sights : YHM, Yankee Hill Machine Co., Inc. | Makers of High Quality Firearms, Accessories & Sound Suppressors, Makers of High Quality Firearms, Accessories & Sound Suppressors have a two piece clamp. That will make your life a little easier.
Look for the thread about replacing the factory hand guard with a two piece and you will have all the info you need.
Good luck and have fun.

Bummer. My real AR15 with a lower gas block flip up sight isn't "real."

I don't know if I offended you or not or what you really meant by your post. If I did, it was not my intent.

I'm just searching for information if anyone has done anything like this yet and how it turned out.

I made a handfull of different fake gas blocks last year I think. Posted pics nothing special just farting around on the machine. Didn't have the flip up sight like you are asking about though.
