I’m going to sell the 627–5 and was looking for some info about it and haven’t been able to find any -5 with the underlug like this? Assuming there’s nothing special about it what would you value it at? Locks up tight and is probably 90+% shape, thanks

627-5 does not indicate a specific configuration. The SKU or product code is what indicates a configuration.

The 8 shot Model 627 was available in a 4" configuration in what the factory called a heavy barrel.

This was introduced in 2008 which was during the -5 engineering revision. These were only made for a year or two

The product code for the revolver I have pictured is 163357. These were only made for a year or two

Here's my 627-5 "Pro" model, from 2016.

I've since plugged the lock; and changed the sights (brass bead now on the front and changed the rear sight blade to a taller one.

Very cool, do you just know a lot about revolvers or are you some sort of S&W employee/rep here?

I assume you’d value this below the pre-lock, pro and performance center, so are we under 1000 at that point?

Any extra collector value at this point? I don’t see any huge historical value unless it’s pre-lock but I want to make sure before I sell, thanks

There are people who know a staggering amount, at least about some models that really interest them. Few if any are official S&W folks.

I am not and have never been an employee of Smith and Wesson. However I have been a huge fan of Smith and Wesson firearms for about four decades now.

I have been an accumulator and eventually collector of Smith and Wessons during those entire four decades.

I do not think of a post lock revolver having lower value when that particular configuration never existed as a pre lock

This heavy barrel variation of the 27/327/627 family revolvers did not sell very well which is why it was only manufactured for a year or two. Years down the road items that were not popular and did not sell, do retain or perhaps a better phrase is earn collector value because of their scarcity.

If the revolver in question is currently in unfired condition since leaving the factory and complete with the original box and accessories then there would absolutely be some collector interest in it

If it is fired since leaving the factory but still in superb condition it would still hold a little collector interest

If this revolver is just in shooter grade condition and missing the original packaging it would probably bring about the same or maybe slightly more than a current variation of the 627 with similar features. Obviously the place to get the most value for your item would be on one of the firearms auction sites
