For those of us that live in states that sell their M&P's with a 10lb trigger, I wanted to let you know that installing the apex hard sear only will bring your trigger pul down to 7 1/4lbs. At least it did for me. It feels much better and is a very simple job. Also the sear is only a $40 job vs $90 for the whole kit. For ccw 7 1/4lbs is a nice compromise between a safe trigger and a trigger that is easier to shoot with at the range. It also has a nice crisp feel and shorter reset. I would recommend anyone else with these **** 10lb triggers to try it. For you guys that get a 6.5lb trigger with your M&P, lucky you.

How would you tell on a used M & P if the Apex kit was put in it? The trigger on the used one I bought a couple weeks ago seems really smooth and light. I don't have anything other than a compact taurus to compare it to.

My stock sear was silver, my apex was dark greenish. Your gun could be smooth because it was used. Use smooths things out. Remember most guns start with a 6 1/2lb trigger unless you live in a state that requires a 10lb trigger. The apex will have very little travel after the break. If yours is good now I would not change it.

all of my M&Ps have 4 lb triggers thanks to Apex

My 45 was 7.25 lbs. out of the box, down to 6.5 after two weeks of dry and some live fire. The Apex sear dropped it to 4.25 lbs.

It's niiiiice :D

My two-year old Burwell trigger job was 4.5 pounds -- just what I wanted -- but the reset was weaker than I wanted it.

I boosted it to 5.5 pounds with a very distinct sear trip point and reset with the Apex Duty/Carry spring set (trigger return and sear springs). Very happy with it.

7.5 pounds would be very heavy for me.

I started with just the sear on my wife's 9mm then just added the whole duty/carry kit as she got used to it. She's new to guns so it was a stepped approach for her comfort. Both of my .40's have the competition kit in them. I prefer the lighter trigger of the competition kit to the duty/carry and will probably adjust my wife's gun to be the same after she gets more shot time.

Update: As noted above the apex hard sear brought the dreaded MA 10lbs trigger to 7 1/4lbs. I just installed the free state trigger return spring ( thats what us MA people call states that don't have all this bs) and my trigger pull is now 5 1/16lbs. Finally a usable gun.

grampa:

If the complete DCAEK or similar kit was installed, or Dan Burwell worked on the gun, it's extremely likely that the drop safety plunger will have a somewhat ball-shaped top (pointed towards the bottom of the slide). The standard S&W plunger is very lightly rounded around the edges and nearly flat. The trigger bar dragging across that is why we want to swap it!

The sear color may be a giveaway - I really didn't notice. 'Course, I put 'em in my own guns....

If your gun has a smooth trigger around 4#, it's been upgraded, or shot the heck out of.... Massachusetts-compliant will be closer to 7# if well-shot, but closer to 4# if the Apex kit was installed.

Guess the point is that if you've not run into a dead trigger problem, do nothing.... If you do have a dead trigger issue once in a while, or just don't like the trigger, you probably don't have the kit....

Randy refuses to pay me for saying this, but I've got a couple of ancient S&W revolvers from the late 60's. Adding the DCAEK kit to any of my three M&P's resulted in trigger feels very close to the old revolvers in SA mode.

Regards,

If you use a magnifying glass, you can easily see the difference in a stock sear, from an Apex or a Burwell modification and you don't have to remove it to see it either. The stock sear has an outward sweep, which cocks the striker more than the other two.
See photos.
