Was reading around...seems alot of people are just installing the APEX sear along with S&W stock springs...and results are giving around a 4.5 lbs trigger pull?

With the Apex trigger kit results are 5.5 lbs?

I would rather have the 4.5 lbs pull...so really all I need is the sear itself and not the whole kit?

I feel that the stock trigger is a bit gritty and if I am going to change the pull and reset, then Id rather do it now, rather than train with my current setup then change and have to get used to a new trigger all over again.

I just replaced the sear. If you want to make it smoother get the usb also. These 2 are less expensive than the whole kit. The trigger grit will smooth out without the usb eventually. You notice the grit dry firing, but I don't when actually shooting.
 
I'd recommend getting the whole kit with either the polymer or alloy trigger. If you're going to be changing stuff, might as well do it once. Even with the kit you will still need to smooth out the roughness on the sear block tab (or shoot a couple K rounds so it smooths itself out), pretty easy to do, just takes a stone/file/sandpaper.
 
I don't mind the stock trigger. Sear and striker block, either thru Apex or the Burwell method, are more important, IMO.
I went the Burwell route and am quite satisfied with the results.

I concur with the APEX sear only solution with the stock springs. My trigger pull was reduced from 6.9# to 4.4#. I will add the Action Trigger later. This replicates the trigger pull of my Glock 19 with a Ghost Ranger Connector.
 
Will probably do the sear as my goal is to have about a 4.5 pull
 
I have the Apex trigger kit and RAM, mine is about 4.4 with a Wheeler Trigger Pull Scale and 4.3 with Lyman Electronic Digital Trigger Pull Gauge.
 
I just use the Apex sear with stock springs. I never had an issue with the trigger. My trigger pull is about 4.5 #. This is a SD handgun, not a range gun. I don't think the Apex USB or trigger is necessary.

My Apex sear alone brought my stock trigger from 6-1/2# to just over 5#
 
Did you guys use regular pin punches when removing pins or did you guys use the roll pin punches?

I think I have a set of the regualr pin punches which are flat faced and heard that they can mess up the holes....
 
They will work fine. The typical flat end punches are great.
FYI..just remember to use a brass punch to remove sights.

Video of my Shield 40, with only an Apex sear and striker blocker installed. I used the stock Shield springs and also molded in a trigger over-travel stop, in the rear of the trigger. My trigger pull length is 1/16 inch, with a 1/16 inch reset. My original trigger pull was 4 pounds 4 ounces. I replaced the stock Shield trigger spring with a standard Glock trigger spring, which further reduced the trigger pull to 3 pounds 10-12 ounces.

Awesome. Ill be ordering my Apex Sear and striker block as soon as money permits.

As previously stated,
Regular flat punches for removing pins will work fine.
 
I only installed the Apex sear in my 9mm Shield and my trigger pull gauge shows it to be a hair under 5lbs. For me it's perfect.
 
Dang I bought the kit and you guys have me wondering if I should forego the springs and USB, etc and just do the sear...
 
I shoot my FS with the Apex kit amazingly well. After taking both the Compact and the shield to the range yesterday with stock triggers I decided the apex kits were a must in each and ordered today. It doesn't make much sense to not order the kit when the whole thing can be had for $76. You'd spend $40 or more on just the new sear alone. Might as well have the option of the other parts for the small premium.

I finally ordered a trigger pull gauge too so I can compare. While my shield has a great reset,I'd bet the farm the stock pull is in excess of 7.5# even after several hundred dry fires and a couple hundred live fires. Looking forward to the Apex goodies after the difference they made in my FS.

I have measured the pull weight before and after the Apex striker blocker install. The reason for the slight drop in pull pressure is the shorter, lower tension blocker spring, that comes with the Apex blocker, along with the fully rounded blocker contact end. The Apex blocker is good for about 6 to 8 ounces of less trigger pull weight, than the stock blocker.

I found the complete kit can be had for the same price as the sear and USB, so I would rather have the extra spring incase I want to modify the pull a bit.
