I am just curious about the Apex triggers. Looking at the Apex Tactical Flat Faced Forward Set Sear and Trigger Kit or the Apex Tactical Forward Set Sear and Trigger Kit. Would either of these be viable in an M&P 9C for CCW or are these mainly for just competition shooting?

Not trying to start a debate about the legal ramifications in regards to modifying a carrying gun. Just looking for opinions on these kits. I have never used an Apex setup before and I love my M&P 9C just not a fan of the split trigger design.

Thanks!

I have the flat faced forward set sear & trigger on my competition gun. The end result was a light trigger pull (about 3.5 lbs) and shortened trigger pull (down to about 1/4") It's great for competition, but with the light, short pull and no safety it may not be suitable for every day carry. More suitable would probably be the duty carry kit apex sells for edc guns...

I see there is also the Apex Tactical Action Enhancement Kit (AEK). Its just the aluminum trigger so perhaps that would be more useful on a carry gun. I am not going for a really light trigger pull. Just really want to change the trigger more than anything.

their duty carry kit is the dcaek, if all you change is the trigger, everything else should remain the same.

The forward set sear kits are perfectly fine for carry. Apex's video for the FFT/FSS states that it is "ideal for ... self-defense" and that they've seen "SWAT teams from around the country embrace our forward set trigger." The springs that come with the kit provide a reasonable trigger pull weight.

If you have any concerns contact Apex directly. They don't bite.

ETA: The FSS kits come with two trigger return springs. If the one is too light for you switch to the stronger spring. I have the lighter spring in my gun and it is still a heavier pull than a 1911.

I am running the Apex Enhanced Polymer trigger in combination with the DCAEK kit in my daily-carry M&P9FS...trigger pull weight is 4.5 pounds, the wonky stock segmented trigger and gritty pull are 100% eliminated, and the overall crisp break and reduced take-up/over travel make for the perfect CCW set-up. Do it and you won't be disappointed... ;)

+1 for the Duty Carry Action Enhancement Kit (DCAEK). I put one in my Pro Series that is my bedroom gun and range fun gun along with the Apex polymer trigger. There is still plenty of take-up in the trigger stroke, which I think is needed on a self defense gun that has no safety, but the break is very crisp and all grittiness is gone. For target shooting, you can tell easily when you are up to the break in the trigger stroke, no problems.

After fiddling a bit, I ended up using the stock trigger spring for a slightly lighter release. I don't have a trigger scale, so can't quote the actual figure, but it is probably just under 5 lbs. For target shooting, the aluminum trigger would probably be better, but for my purposes the polymer trigger works great.

This is what i was thinking too, for carry. I ordered the polymer trigger and found a local guy on craigslist with a couple DCAEK kits, hopefully try and get one of those for 50 bucks ;)
