Appendix Carry

I appendix carry a j-frame snub regularly and it’s very comfortable and conceals well for me. This includes lots of drive time for work. If I switch over to my g19 or even g33(sub compact Glock) it still carry’s comfortably and conceals well unless I have a lot of sitting/driving that day.

I’d say it’s important to make sure your holstering routine stays very deliberate and don’t become complacent with it since the muzzle is in the vicinity of your bits. I typically will take the holster out and put the gun in it, then tuck it back into the waistline. But that’s not always practical so you have to make sure your finger is off the trigger and there are no foreign objects that can get in the trigger guard when you holster the gun when the holster is in your waist already. Also, choosing a holster that has a retention clip that will keep the holster in place when drawing is important. I’ve got a couple that won’t bite on certain belts and when you draw you end up presenting a gun still in its holster which would be no good in a defensive scenario.

Considering Appendix Carry.
I normally CCW a full size service weapon. (sig p-220 .45)
Does anyone use Appendix Carry ?
Opinions ?

I do regularly with a 340PD and a Glock 42/43. They disappear under an untucked shirt, which is pretty much the only way I dress. A pistol as big as a Sig 220 would be mighty uncomfortable for me.

Situational- but a Glock 43 or P220 Compact work fine. Beretta 3032 or the 43 while jogging. The biggest thing is developing the muscle memory of drawing under stress. It takes a lot of range/trigger time to be confident in your carry position no matter which you choose.

I appendix carry s&w revolvers and the Sig 226.I recommend appendix carry only after receiving training.

Snub J or K frame S&W only, when I do. In a holster that covers trigger guard. For 43 years. I don't worry so much about shooting myself as the gun is holstered off body, then tucked in my belt. I don't draw it unless I need it so it remains safe and secure. It is covered by a shirt or jacket. It is a perfect balance of concealment and speed of draw for close range affairs. For almost all other carry of all other weapons I carry at 3:00 in a OWB or IWB holster.

Not the topic, but I don't get the concern that some have over holstering and re holstering guns. Certainly, one should practice this with an empty gun thousands of times before actually doing it until they can't possibly get it wrong. But when I carry a gun, I put it on and don't mess with it. I don't draw it, play with it, touch it or check it. It is ready for business and only carried for business. I try to carry combinations that don't require me to adjust all day. It may happen, but rarely. If I draw and fire my gun under life saving condition it will likely be in my hand until I hear the sirens....then if possible I will set it on the ground.

I've tried it with empty guns and it does conceal well, but I just can't get comfortable with a loaded gun pointing at my guts.

Totally understand the concern, but it demonstrates a fundamental lack of understanding about how firearms function . . .

Edit: As an example, those who wear a horizontal shoulder holster are totally unconcerned about pointing their pistol at everyone behind them . . .

No, and never will. It’s difficult to draw from a sitting position and it’s impossible to do without sweeping yourself. I’ve also just never seen any advantage over IWB at the 3-4 o’clock position.

It's actually easier to draw from a seated position, especially with a tall seat back. This is why many FAMS went to this style of carry on aircraft.

But yes, it's inevitable that you will sweep yourself in some fashion. Very competent gun handlers only.

Gave it a try when I bought a Shield Plus. Went through several holsters and found what works best for me, a straight drop unit made by Pyntek. Super comfortable and easy to draw, I carry this almost exclusively now.

I’ve carried in the appendix area for years. Here’s three that I kind of rotate and carry appendix position these days.

I only appendix carry. Usually, it is a S&W 3953 or 4053 and on some occasions a Walther PPS.

jimmyj, I believe you need to find out if you have the right body to accommodate a 3.9+ inch barrel Sig 210.

With my body, I'm okay with 3.5" barrel pistol, but anything approaching 4" makes sitting and some other movements uncomfortable.
