I have a M&P 15 OR.
I would like to talk off the stock gas block and install a low profile block and install a rifle length hand rail.

It appears that the pin is holding the gas block onto the barrel The pin that looks like it goes through the wall of the barrel. Am I correct with this assumption?
How do you remove the stock gas block?
And can a low profile gas block be installed with out any major issues.

Danny if you will repost this in the M&P15 subforum you will get all the answers you need, I changed the front sight out on my Sport and put in a railed gas block, none of the pins went into the barrel but I am unfamiliar with your rifle.

hmmm...

i have a S&W M&P 15 OR Rifle as well.

the gas block of this model comes with a picatinny rail top.

i was assuming there are rifle-length rails out there that work around the gas block (i.e. the Troy BattleRail 12" MRF-CX) without any modification of said gas block required.

is that a false assumption? does anyone know? would greatly appreciate some advice as well. Thanks in advance :)

I posted some links under the extended length carbine handguard thread that shows these.
