AR build question

I’m building a 20” AR, and I’m taking a bit of a different route than I ever have. Came into a BCM upper and a Faxon barrel at a good price, and decided I wanted to build the firearm version of S-K tools. Doesn’t need to be fancy in the least, just flat-out reliable, nice mil-spec or duty style parts.

My question is, I have a complete BCG, that I don’t know the maker of. Would it be feasible to replace the bolt, firing pin etc on the BCG, would you replace the whole BCG, or would you just run as is? Thanks

You are well on the way to a very good build using the BCM upper. Get a BCG (or two, I have a spare in the rifle bag) from BCM and save yourself the concern.

I am aware of an agency (a friend was an armorer there until retirement) that ended up with a new and unqualified individual running the rifle program. He specced rifles opposed by every qualified armorer because they did not at all meet the proper standards and they had a terrible time. Among the other issues, BCGs that had not been properly specced and tested individually failed during initial qualifications one at about 20 rounds. Don't take the risk.

I would use the BCG you have to begin. Change when or if necessary or if you simply want to.

Bingo, Reloadforfun nailed it. I have a spare bolt for the 3 AR calibers I run. They are all from different manufacturers than what is in the AR.
