I went to a gun show today,,,, looking for a reloading press,,, that is another story,,
I was standing next to a guy who wanted to buy a 10/22,,, but, as usual he did not have the cash.

He asked the LGS if he would take a AR15 on trade,,, the LGS said no,,

So, I had to ask,,, what did he have.

We walked out to the car, and this was in the trunk.

It says "Zombie Defender" in bright green on the other side,,, 223 caliber.

Then, he showed me the bag of what came with it.
Ten magazines,,, only 2 were Pmag, the rest were rough.
Some sort of hand grip that goes on the rail,
several magazine mounts of some sort, also a broken shell extractor.
All of the furniture seems to be Magpul.

AND,,,,,

a 22 LR conversion kit plus three 22 LR mags.

I paid $500 for it all,,, he wanted that 10/22,,, :D

The 223 bolt and the 22LR conversion run great, I have already fired about 100 rounds of each.

NOW, my question,,,
How do I clean the Magpul sand colored furniture?
I do not want to end up with some sticky mess,,,
Windex? 409? some sort of plastic cleaner?

The tan parts look like they either have oily dirt, or powder stains.

I am a bolt action kinda guy,,, so I have never cleaned an AR before.

Any recommendations on a cleaning kit would be appreciated.

Thanks for the help!! :)

Oh, yea,
can I just mount the 2X7 Leupold scope that I have on that rail?
The scope has Leupold "Weaver" rings,,,, kinda "low" rings,,,,

Pull the Magpul furniture off the rifle. Beware that the grip holds in the safety detent and spring, don't lose those. Take the Magpul furniture to the sink. Wash like you would dishes. Dry. The stock has a little spring. A drop of oil. Reinstall.

Think of Magpul furniture as tough Tupperware. I know people will freak out over my advice, but it worked for me.

I created a cleaning kit thread in the M&P 15 sub forum. Click the thread title below.

Not too bad. I have Magpul furniture on my AR. Honestly, I would just leave it. It's got character from the classes I've taken with it. Just wiping it down should be fine. Magpul as nice tupperware is actually a good way to describe it.

Both of those MBUS sights installed backwards in the picture there. It also looks like the front sight is mounted on the gas block. That is a No-Go because the MBUS is polymer and will melt if you shoot more than a few rounds at a time. Steel sights should only be mounted on rails on the gas block.

PEPR is a good mount but it is really heavy. I use an Aero precision mount. It is the lightest I have ever seen and they have a few options for whatever you need to mount. For a gun like that or one I will build in the future, I would aim to keep it light weight.

For cleaning, I use Hoppes Bore Snakes for all my guns. Love them. The area around the bore and gas tube will be the hardest to clean. An AR bore brush or chamber mop is a MUST for that area. Else, you will be using a lot of Q-Tips. If you strip the bolt, poly tools should be able to pick most of the carbon build up off. They do make specialty tools but you can do fine without or if you already have cleaning stuff for other firearms.

It would make a nice SBR if you pay the stamp and chop that muzzle device off :)

You can likely mount your scope on it in those rings, (sometimes weaver rings fit a picatinny rail, sometimes not), but it'll be awfully low. You can buy a riser to correct this, or a dedicated AR mount and/or rings.

You can clean the furniture about any way you'd clean pvc lawn furniture; a tire brush and Simple Green, dishwasher, etc.

It should have a manufacturer name on it. Zombie defender is not the manufacturer. Thats just their silly name for the rifle or the lower. Probably Spikes Tactical

A good way to clean it is take a regular brush and buy some Tuff Stuff at your local auto shop like PepBoys or Advanced Auto Parts. Spray on, brush and wipe off. It's multi purpose foam cleaner. I've been using it on car interior plastics for decades. You don't need to take the furniture off. If you're worried about the metal finish then spray on a rag and wipe on, brush and wipe off.

GG&G rear sling swivel mount and that stock is a Troy battle axe - pretty good product - I've got a few of them

For the price, you did well.

I use a wipe cloth after spraying with Simple Green. Then I finish with a sprayed coating of Lemon Pledge which is wiped off furniture and metal. Works great and smells good. ...............
