I was wondering is it's worth getting a AR style stock for my Remington 870 pump? I picked up a 20" smooth bore short barrel with raised front and rear sights on it.. I think it would be a good combo.. Just with all that's going on right now I wonder if they will outlawed such items gun may be worth more with it on it.... Or maybe they will be imposable to get if a ban go's into effect.. I use the 870 as a trap gun.. I don't shoot trap much anymore and think a tactical shotgun may be more practical for another home defence gun or if the SHTF gun.. I'm looking at a Black hawk palomar with adjustable length rear and comes with a four or pump handle.. $69 bucks.. only other thing I would need is a mag extender. I think a 3 rounder would work with a 20" barrel maybe some kind of shell holder.. Your thoughts. George

Just to let you know, the admin will probably move this post. It is something that probably should be asked in the lounge. I know from past experience. Getting a collapsible stock for your 870 and a mag extender are a choice you need to make. But you make a good point if they outlaw them and you have them on hand (grandfathered of course) they will be worth more.

I had one for a while, fired about 500 slugs with it, and then removed it. I got a LOT more utility from a short (12") length of pull standard stock on the 870. The general handiness of a shotgun is limited by the AR-style stock. Try a shorter LOP, you will thank me. Hogue makes a nice one for about $60. (My hacksaw and a Pachmayr pad made me one for $18)
As for mag tube extensions, I do like a one-shot extension. 5+1 works well for me, and it doesn't dramatically change the balance of the weapon. (especially when you take 2.5" off the stock)
As for the rest of the gun, sounds nice. Front and rear sights, smoothbore, 20". Perfect.

squidsix,
Your saying that he pistol grip slowed you down and the gun was more functional for you with a factory stock but a shortened one. Hummm worth thinking about.. I'll stick the short barrel on and swing it around and see how she feels.. Thanks..George

Go with the Blackhawk/Knox recoil reducing stock Gen2. Mellows out the recoil so you can get back on target faster and can go through shells all day without picking your shoulder up off the deck.

Ya looks great! thanks for the photo! I'm really thinking on it! What barrel length are you running with your setup?George

Ok Thanks! Is that a 3 round mag extension also? How many rounds will your mag tube hold in 2 3/4".. Thanks again! george

Yes the three round extension came with it when i bought it a couple years back. It holds 7+1 of thundering goodness.

This has a recoil reducing stock on it. Of course I have a red dot and flashlight on it now looking for a decent cheap lazer. This is a Rem 870

I prefer regular style stocks on my 870's but I have another one on the way ($250 police trade in) and I got my paperwork filled out to SBS it , think Im gonna go for the Knoxx/blackhawk recoil reducing pistol grip stock on it for a change.

I hear the Gen 2's fixed the face slapping. Never noticed it on my Gen1.8
