Are CCI "Quiet"s, really quiet ?

I live in an area, that requires noise reduction with my firearms. Legal and safe to shoot, but lots of sensitive, politically correct neighbors.

I've been using subsonic .22's, about 1050 fps. No supersonic crack, but in my short barrel 10-22's, still more noise than I want. My old Winchester Model 69A, with its long 25" barrel is a lot better.

The "Quiets" are supposed to be 750 fps, or so. Has anyone had real world experience with these ?

I know that handguns up the noise a lot, just looking for good rifle performance.

No, I haven't been able to locate a single box of these as yet, but looking. They are made in a segmented version, if I am attacked by a rabid snapping turtle.

You need 900 fps or less for low noise.......
the 40gr sub-sonic suck at low noise in the "Hood".

If you can find short or long CB ammo from CCI, it will
be your best bet, if you can get any accuracy from the slow bullets.

I've shot Quiet in both pistols and rifles, and it lives up to its name.
In fact, for a while, I was considering using it in my Romanian M69 trainer to take out a problem urban raccoon. In that long barreled rifle, the noise is very reasonable. I've been getting into air rifles lately, and I believe I would use one of those for my coon problem, now.
Btw, my local Walmart had two boxes of Quiet on the shelf yesterday, for $3.97 a box.

In my experience, it's about as loud as an air rifle out of a rifle length barrel, and tolerable out of a pistol.

It also won't cycle the action on either of my Marlin Model 60s.

This is interesting. I purchased a brick of the .22 Colibri ammo several years ago. 20-grain bullet, no powder charge (priming charge only), recommended only for handguns. I have used these with mixed, but generally good, results for pest control purposes in my 2" Model 34. Have not attempted any accuracy tests because my usual range is a few feet, not yards. Even out of the little Kit Gun the Colibri gives a muzzle report comparable to an air rifle.

A 40-grain bullet in a loading that can be used in a .22 rifle with minimal noise, and reasonable accuracy to 25 yards or so, would be very nice to have on hand.

Thanks to everyone for this post and links.

I've used Colibri for preliminary scope zeroing in my back yard - at least to get on the paper. I find standard velocity .22 Short is very quiet in a rifle. Now, finding standard velocity .22 Short is a different matter. But I have quite a bit of it. And of course, it must be single loaded, as it won't function the action of any semiautomatic, except for the very few semiautomatic handguns specifically chambered for it.

I've tried most all of them, the CCI CB short is the best. Speed is 710 fps. I shoot it out of a Winchester pump, sounds about like the cap pistols we had as kids and is very accurate. I even shoot them in the house where you would think they would be really loud being inside, not so. Much quieter than the CCI quiets, not even close. The Colibri are just too weak and somewhat undependable, I have a couple rifles that it won't even make it out of the barrel. Try them, you won't be disappointed.

I find that the CCI QUIET is just that - quiet out of a Rifle. Out of a handgun they are still discernible as a gun shot. By the way, they will usually not operate a semi auto mechanism. I use them in a Bolt Action Rifle and find that they are accurate enough but certainly NOT tack driver ammo.

I shoot them out of my 77/22 with an Octane 9 on the end. You hear the firing pin. Much less noise than even the cci standards thru the can. Must be the same without a suppressor. You notice it.

The CCI Quiet would not cycle my 10/22. They were somewhat quieter than the CCI SV.

$4.99/50 at Gander Mtn. a few weeks ago.

Yes the CCI quiet are very quiet but they will not cycle in my 10\22. I bought them for my bolt action and revolver but the box looks so similar to the CCI standard velocity I loaded some by accident. They will fire but you will have to cycle the bolt. They shoot horribly in my Ruger American rimfire but I never tried a group in the 10\22. They shoot great in my 617 and they are very quiet even in the revolver.

I have shot the CCI CB 22 Shorts and CB 22 Longs and they are very quiet. Problem is, the bullet is light @only 29gr. The CCI Quiet-22 LR ammo is slightly louder but still very quiet. That ammo shoots a 40gr bullet and it does work very well. I have shot squirrels with it and the Quiet-22 ammo is just as effective as their "normal" 22LR ammo. This ammo is very accurate to 50 yards and possible more but I have only shot it to 50 yards myself.

That Quiet-22 ammo is also rated @only 710 fps so there is no sonic crack either and the slightly louder report is due to the slightly more powder needed to push a 40gr bullet to 710 fps instead of a 29gr bullet to 710 fps.

I was lucky to buy a brick of 500 rounds for only $25 just before the first 22 shortage hit. I think a box of 50 is still going for almost $8 today but I really can't understand why???

The Quiet is very accurate in my CZ452 with a long barrel. Sounds like an airgun. Hits 6 inches low at 50 yards from a high speed zero on my CZ452.

Should kill small game just fine as far as your rifle will hit accurately. As a kid, I used the CB caps for small game out to 25 yards. The game did not seem to notice the difference and the CBs were cheaper.

I have found that the CCI .22 Target Short is absolutely quiet when fired in a bolt action rifle outdoors and it has excellent killing power against critters like skunks and 'possums. It has much more killing power than the various anemic CB Shorts and Longs and it shoots to the sights in rifles that are sighted in for high velocity LR. Remington at one time made something similar, as I was given most of a brick of this stuff and it seems nearly identical in performance. If you want to quietly dispatch pests, these rounds are the way to go.

I think all the rounds being discussed are good for their particular situations. My backyard is not 50 yards deep so that level of accuracy isn't that important but I can pop a squirrel peeking from the top of a telephone pole. That's about the size of a 50 cent piece at 40 feet and CCI CB shorts are as quiet as I can find. Of course I wouldn't expect it to cycle a semi auto. Match the right ammo to what you plan to shoot and all should be good.

I'll need to try the CCI CB's myself----but I have used the super colibri's and they are as quiet as it gets(save the CCi CB's I haven't tried yet).

I killed a squirrel a while back with a colibri but I was two feet away.

I shot some at a target and they POI about the same as anything up to about 35 paces (pistol) then they drop like a rock.

Incidentally, I have trying do kill squirrels with a daisy 1377 lately (alot quieter than even the colibri). They do not drop them. I had to shoot one numerous times and I felt bad. I am not in a position to use 22 now
that I have new neighbors so I need some sort of good air rifle.

If anybody has any ideas I'd like to hear it.
