I have a 6906 and a 4013TSW. The magazines look identical does anyone know if they can work in either pistol?

mags

I don't know if the s&w mags will interchange, but I know beretta 92 and 96 mags will work in either gun , stands to reason some other model will do this.

I also do not know, but know that my Ruger P89 came with one magazine baseplate marked 9mm and one .40 S&W and I could never tell any other visual or functional difference between them....

My 4013TSW magazines have a dimple on the front - which I think prevents them from being used in a 469/6906. I'll have to check it out - that leads me to believe that a 6906 mag might fit into a 4013... Don't your TSW magazines have a little "outy" dimple on the front below the mag catch slot?

I have the exact same question as the OP, but I figured I'd better run a search before posting it... so that's how we got here... again.

Any new intel on this since 2016?

If nobody knows, I'll pack up both guns, all my mags (which accidentally got intermingled, thus the question), a bunch of ammo, and head to the range to figure it out once and for all. I enjoy my range trips, but this is gonna be tedious

I'll be back w results...

A 6906 mag will fit and lock in a 4013TSW magwell.
(As well as a 5906 mag fitting and locking in a 4006 magwell.)

But not the opposite because 40 mags have a bump on the front that only allows them to go in a 40 magwell.

I actually never noticed the little "outie" bump on the .40 mags but I got em out today and bigger than life, there it is. There's also a corresponding groove at the front of the magwell that I also never noticed before.
On really close inspection, I noticed that the feed lips have a slightly different profile on the left side and there's a pair of dimples pressed-in towards the rear that the 9mm mags don't have..

.40s will feed and cycle (by hand) using the 9mm mags. No live fire yet, I didn't make it to the range. At this point, having ID'd which mags are which, I no longer see a reason to test the theory further... but I might anyway.

I think that at least ONE magazine that I bought for the .40 is actually a 9... either one of the units that came w the gun or one I bought later. I suddenly have almost twice as many 9mm mags as 40s, and I know I didn't do that on purpose

I'm thinkin' that dimple at the back of the 40 mags is to deal with the increased recoil over the 9mm.

CS45 mags have that to prevent recoil pushing the next cartridge in line out of place and causing a jam.
