Are politicians really that ignorant? Are guns the problem?

When the south side of Chicago has a record 500 homicides this year. Young black males killing other young black males mostly. what does that tell me.
It tells me there is record money going south to drug cartels.

Gangs on the street or in prison exist for reasons. Mostly for shipping and distributing illegal drugs.

The drug pusher on the corner or in the local park at night cannot call the police and tell them another drug pusher is moving in on his area. Not in any formal way.

There is no judge or jury to decide disputes between illegal drug traffickers.
…………………..

And Politicians get killed or injured mostly by paranoid schizophrenic white males. Mostly loners. Are their bodyguards trained to spot crazies? Any educated greeters out shaking hands at the door. Anyone looking for constricted or dilated eyeballs and strange responses?
………………….

So most politicians are a bit nervous about guns and crazies - perfectly natural response. And they do not want to admit illegal drugs are taking over the cities.

Once upon a time a neighbor of mine was an ex-San Bernardino Policeman. He gave them 15 years. Naturally I ask why he did not stay for retirement. His answer was basic. He said the first five years there is the police, the criminal, and the citizen. He continued the next five years it is us and them. Then the next five years you have seen enough police come up dirty you no longer completely trust other policemen.

He might as well have been a politician? Or maybe I just no longer trust anyone except my mother and she left this world from old age over 20 years ago.

I cannot trust politicians because they talk ignorant when they blame guns for crime. Or when they train their security poorly.

Jack Hanna was on Piers Morgan with his animals the other night (forced me to stop flipping channels). At no time did Piers demand the animals eye teeth be pulled?

Some may be. Maybe I'm getting jaded, but I think there are a lot more who are preparing for some bad turns of events by squashing our rights.

Yes, they are. Also, their priorities are not the same as yours. Their #1 priority is getting reelected. Everything else is way down the line. Representatives, with 2 year terms, have no actual window of opportunity to actually do their job-they start fund raising for the next election even before they take their oath of office. As a result, they tend to respond to the loudest and richest groups first. We are moving away from the Athenian form of democracy (one man, one vote, scratched on a piece of broken pottery-one with the most cracked pots wins), to the Spartan form of vote by acclamation-( the loudest wins-the squeeky wheel govt).

Well, at least the liberal ones are... not merely ignorant, but stupid and lacking of the rare characteristic called "common sense". Everyone else (including young children) can see the "link" in the mass killings that occur in our country, however low in occurrence they are (compared to numbers of dead from so-called traffic "accidents", many of which are NOT accidents but due to stupidity). My kids notice the fact that the vast majority of mass killings involving firearms are taking place in the supposedly safe, "gun-free zones". Take away the gun-free zones and you eliminate most of these tragedies. Allow the trained, law-abiding citizen to carry his concealed firearm and you now have a huge deterrent to the random criminal intent on doing harm on innocent people. I mean, come on, when was the last time you heard of a gunman trying to go on a shooting spree in a decent sized police station, or gun range, or even a gun shop (even here in "may issue" but never ever did issue Hawaii, the gun shop owners have their sidearm strapped to them in their place of business). There's been a lot of murders and attempted ones here, many with knives (are we going to ban/register them next?) and some with firearms (funny the news never reports whether they were legally registered to the perp or not; most were stolen or acquired illegally) yet our police chief doesn't seem to think we should be allowed to carry our firearms outside of our homes. Heck, most gun owners I know shoot better than the cops that are out there carrying their 9mm/.40 around, and most of them put in more range time than the cops, so what's the problem? It would seem to me that if we can demonstrate equivalent or superior proficiency in our firearms handling than the cops, we should be allowed to carry as they do (even if it means open carry like theirs is). But, until we get rid of our liberal democrat majority in our legislature, that'll never happen (we have only 5 republican reps and 1 republican senator in our state legislature). Pray for us, guys... we really need it here in "paradise" (sorry, not a paradise for gun owners).

Since the TV debates started, I believe with JFK and Nixon, the vast majority of the public has voted with it's eyes instead of it's brain. The fact that Californians elected as their leader, the movie actor from another country ( a bad actor at that ) not to mention president Reagan,( most famous as the spokesman for Forty Mule Team Borax) should tell us something about what we have come to value in this country. Nothing wrong with Reagan certainly, many consider him the best we have had in a while. The other guy,for all I know, is the best California has ever had, though I read there was an 80 billion dollar problem in the state's money. My point is, since we keep putting people in office because they come across as pretty, without any real digging into their true, conviction to do what we elect them to do, I have to wonder which side the ignorance is on.....ah well.

I think this quote seems apt here...

'It is difficult to get a man to understand something, when his salary depends on his not understanding it.' - Upton Sinclair

No. Of course not. They have an agenda, and the people who vote for them are ignorant. Your neighbors, family, some forum members. Que lastima. Most people are ignorant of fast and furious, castaway, and whatever else hasn't bubbled up. No, the ignorance is in the electorate, not in the elect.

dougb1946 is absolutely correct. All they are concerned about is reelection. When was the last time they passed a bill to "help" all Americans instead of their voting block. Both parties have sold us out. 1 more observation, Obama and his AG Holder can send assault weapons to the mexican cartel to kill our border patrol agents, now he wants the rest of them.
