I used a sonic cleaner after my shooting session this afternoon. It was my friend s machine I took the cylinder and crane apart put it the machine for around 10 minutes and it sure cleaned everything, but after putting it back together it locked up. I got it apart and took off the side plate, added a boy of lubricant and function returned. I am curious if these cleaning machines aren't good for the complicated clockwork of revolvers. Has/is anyone using one of these cleaners. I don't think I will use one again, it worked, but I worry about what it could do to the gun...thoughts?

There's your problem. Never add more than a girl of lubricant..

I'm guessing, as arjay suggests, the thing cleaned all the old lube out of your gun, which you then replaced. Ultrasonic cleaners are used for cleaning things with a lot more complex and close tolerance parts than guns. Things like watches, for example.

I put my beater stainless GP100 in one minus the trigger group and front sight. It came out looking like new.

I laughed out loud too, my auto correct took over. Thanks for putting my fears to rest

Got a Ruger SP101? Spray the insides with a carb cleaner and TRY to pull the trigger.:eek: Carb cleaner cleans EVERYTHING off metal so on a used gun it's a good idea to get back to square one. I then LIGHTLY spray with CLP aerosol, let it gun out for 2-3 days, and blow the rest out with compressed air. Good as new.

With the Ruger I think it is just all the parts are cast rather than forged like S&W.

brake cleaner, toothbrush, standard barrel brush/mop and remoil. remove stocks first.
i use an ultrasonic for small parts such as broken down AR bolt, etc. cleans the **** out of them, hit with brake cleaner and wipe down, then remoil and air.

that's it.

glocks get Mobil 1 synthetic in a syringe after the same above cleaning. no magic snake oils.
