I have this old Model 36 box and paperwork that I have been hanging onto for some unknown reason and I am not sure if I should keep it, toss it or try to sell it. Not sure if they are collectable or not. What are your thoughts on the matter?
Check ebay and you may be surprised what boxes will go for, and the one in the pic looks like it's in pretty good shape. I definitely wouldn't toss it!
Personally I think the box has some value on it's own and certainly wouldn't toss it out...but matched to it's original gun it can raise the price of the gun substantially! Under the right circumstances most would pay quite a bit more for a gun with it's box...that's when the box has it's most value.
OK, so two estimates say ~$30.00 to maybe $20.00 for the box alone. How much value will the numbers matching box add to the gun for sale? I ask only because I'm poised to make purchase of a nice example w/box.
For what it's worth I paid $28 plus $5 shipping for a M36 box about a month ago on eBay. It was an earlier box ( solid) outer line with the original paperwork.
I would say yours ( with the papers) is worth between $20-$25 in my opinion.
The rod and jags you have do not appear to be smith and wesson originals.
I buy boxes, mostly local, you never know when they will come in handy, along with grips, screws whatever the secound you pass somthing original by at a fair price, you will need it.
