Well after Mother Nature dropped 15 or 16 inches of the white stuff (VERY WET AND HEAVY ) I tried out the new Drift Cutter attachments that go on my two year old Ariens Deluxe.

Mr. Town Snow Plow left me 3 1/2 feet of compacted wet snow in the front of my driveway, and to my surprise the new Drift Cutters did help a bit. They get out in front of the bucket and cut the snow funneling it into the machine. When plowing the end of the driveway I did not take full width cuts, but half cuts and it performed flawlessly. They are not the end all, but do help when the snow is twice the height as the machine itself!

I do LOVE the heated grips! When I bought the machine I though it was kind of a Wuss - option, but when you are out there for hours no matter how hard you try not to..... your hands still get wet. Even soaking wet and 25º F the grips keep your fingers nice and comfy - I'd definitely recommend that option also for anyone who is looking for a new snow Blower.

About the only gripe I have with the machine is that the Gasoline Tank could be a bit bigger. A full tank does last about an hour or so but I have quite a bit to do and had to fill it 3 times this afternoon. Oh - did the Neighbors house also. :o

I picked up an Ariens 28" with tracks in early December, 420cc and a huge tank. It's a beast, and what a life saver! We've had more than 80" of snow since I got it (27" in one storm), and I've spent many 3-hour sessions chasing it out the driveway and down 'n' up the dirt, quarter-mile-long county road to get down to my truck (county doesn't maintain the road in winter). I've been out in -10 (F) temps -- the hand warmers are manly things. (Like bearman49709, no wet gloves.) Nothing but praise for the brand.

Tailwinds,

Bob

Last year I also bought a big new Arians deluxe with all the extras. It is a O/K machine but my 24" MTD is still my favorite though the Arians is much better at clearing wet slushy snow.
I do admit that I do miss my Chevy 3500 with the 8' fisher plow.

Arians does make a nice machine! I call my 28" Deluxe "The Beast"! I almost think that if I accidentally ran into a drifted in Beetle there would be chewed up Volkswagen parts across the street.

My 1978 Simplicity 16 hp tractor with a 48inch single stage snowblower doesn't owe me a dime.
Got it from my dad in 1987, he used it for mowing his lawn. I found an appropriate snowblower and it's been my snow fighting rig ever since.
My Father's voice is in my head saying "Yep they don't make them like that anymore."

I've used snowblowers for over forty years and never got my hands wet, your doing something wrong if you do.

While Snow Blowing I also clean off the cars, clean off the house windows, mail box, light fixtures, gate locks, etc. and the snow blower itself if necessary. My hand ALWAYS get wet. Maybe I am doing something wrong but I too have been clearing snow for many years and have never come in the house with dry gloves. :o

Bought a 28" Deluxe Ariens earlier this year.
Nice machine and the dealer was great.
Only one problem so far; the Ariens works so well, it has successfully scared off all the snowstorms that headed this way all winter :D
Other than when I started it after the dealer delivered it and ran it into the shop; it has just sat there under cover waiting for it's maiden voyage :)
It might be the best piece of snow removal equipment I've ever seen

I call my Ariens 28" Deluxe "Monica".

It never fails to start, hasn't bogged down once, hasn't found a drift too deep to cut through. Sometimes it takes a couple of passes, but it gets the job done.

A couple of winters ago, it snowed every day in February. It was the worst winter in my then 61 years on the planet.

My neighbor was trying to cut through the bank so he could cut a path to the oil fill on the back corner of his house. His 26" Troybilt kept dying out. I rolled my machine over and offered to help. He thought it was hopeless, but about ten minutes later the path was cut.

I also was able to cut a path all the way around my house so I could use a roof rake to clear the ice dams.

Much like a S&W 3rd Gen, if you keep them cleaned, lubed, and do routine maintenance, they will be reliable for a long, long time.

What a coincidence.

A guy from Boston called yesterday inquiring about lodging during this year's solar eclipse. He asked about our weather this season. I told him -- worst in memory. He recounted his experiences about the winter you mentioned. It truly is a small world, and we're all here for such a short term.
