I picked up a couple of boxes of Armscor 300gr. XTP for my S&W 500. I was wondering if anybody knew what type of powder they might use in them?

The loading companies use propellants which are generally different in some respects from canister powders sold to reloaders. No big deal, as the loaders generally will test each lot of powder they receive and use the quantity needed to get the desired internal and external ballistics. A powder lot can be 50,000 pounds of powder, maybe even more.

Canister powders sold to reloaders are blended to produce near-identical and consistent ballistics over a long time period, so that a container of powder you buy today will be the same as a container of the same powder you bought 15 years ago. The commercial loading companies do not have that same need for powder consistency as their ballistics lab establishes the proper amount to use before quantity loading begins. When they switch to a different powder lot, they do more tests.

Like any mass produced ammo - the powder used is non-cannister and not available to the general reloading public.
An exception MIGHT be some W-W magnum offerings using 296 powder.

Ya. I was just curious. I pulled one apart to look. It had a charge of 13.9gr. of “something”. I actually wanted to see if they were using a cannelure on the 300gr. XTP bullet they are using. MidwayUSA has some factory seconds I’m looking at to craft a new round.
