When I look at guns on Armslist they say in some of the shipping catagories in ads "NO". They have to ship so what does NO mean? And sometimes prices are so low I wonder if I'm actually looking at an auction and that low price is just the current bid, but it does say "FS" in the ad so they must not be auctions. Dumb questions, but it's just confusing. Any help here is much appreciated.

EDIT ALERT!!! I Googled the gun and caliber and found the same gun but different pictures of it on a closed Gunauction ad from 2014. Serial number the same. It was bought for over ten grand then but is now on Armslist for $1300! I will not post the ad here and make accusations, but this is looking pretty suspicious. It is an extremely rare gun.

Register to hide this ad
Armslist and Jason's are mostly local face-to- face sites.
I have bought, sold and traded on both sites.
I usually only look at the Albuquerque listings.
I Have not noticed that prices are that cheap.

I've purchased and sold a number of guns off Armslist. I ignore the shipping completely. I do FTF transactions only as I have no idea who I'm dealing with and am not going to send money and hope I get a gun. If I open an ad and I find the price to be what I consider low I instantly look to see how long the seller has been registered. If it is an unregistered seller I have found most of them to be a scam and move on to the next interesting listing.

Hope that helps a bit.

I missed this, but in the extensive text of the antique gun I'm looking at it says buyer pays $20 shipping. so this guy ships, but it still says NO in the larger part of the ad about shipping. Looks easy to contact seller so I might try that. Says "premium seller" but see no sell/buy records listed.

I failed to address that part. A premium seller is generally a gun dealer as opposed to a private seller. Unlike GB you will not find a sell/buy record. Buyer beware! Also most premium sellers that I've seen and dealt with have a link to their website.

Wyatt, I also didn't address the No shipping aspect. When I post an ad the shipping field is defaulted to no. So unless the seller makes an effort to select that option the ad will default to No Shipping. Hope that helps.

Armslist, like craigslist, if chock full of flakes, thieves, and regular folks like us.

I've done business on both (in fact I got my 1076 from armslist) but proceed cautiously when I do. I do not send money to people I cannot verify, I only meet in very public places, and both me and my wife are well armed when we do meet.

I've mostly experienced regular folks, far too many flakes (tire kickers, hagglers, ready-to-buy-then-POOF-they're-gone, lowballers), and have never experienced a thief. I have gotten queries from people out of state that wanted me to ship my gun to their door "off the books" but chalk that up to flakes.

The bottom line is your gut told you it was fishy and you were right.

I too have bought and sold on Armslist. Never a problem but then again I will only do face to face, not to say I won't travel a few miles to meet halfway if reasonable. If the seller is unregistered it normally indicates a fraud, also if they only list the state and not the city, even in the body of the ad...beware. I believe in a lot of conversation before meeting someone to make the deal. If it looks too good to be true.....

IMO Armslist is the Craigslist of online firearms sales.
'Nuff said?

Exactly. Local sales, meeting. Bought my last 5 on Armslist and every one was a smooth deal on nice guns. Buyer beware.
