Armslist Scam
Gents I wanted to let you know of my recent experience on armslist.

Gentlemen had a 4” 1950 .45 ACP Model 22-4 listed. Price was $600.00. Sounded like a great deal. Emailed and asked if he still had the gun, as I wanted to buy. Response I got was full of grammatical errors, misspellings, and the seller said he did have the gun and would pay all shipping and FFL costs, etc. Ok, no problem. I emailed the guy back, and said I wanted to use a brick and mortar shop to do the transaction, I’d send the funds to them, he’d give them the gun, they’d give him the funds. Guy has dropped off the net now.

I found a scam as well on armslist,a smith 631 in new mexico,he was using the same pics as an active auction on gunbroker..I flagged the armslist ad and sent a note to the seller on gunbroker..gotta be very alert these days.

Let me know if that one shows up again.
I would be delighted to go look at it.
I have never seen a 631!

Old gag. There is a variation of it on Cars.com.

I've too have run across scams. Armslist is face to face only.
I agree ,on the Ohio list a gun was listed after checking other listing by this poster I found he had the same gun listed in N.C. Armslist , it was a handgun to booth

I am debating a Arkansas gunlist ad now. I'm a Ioweegan. Just can't send a postal money order without a intermediate gun shop.

took me for $585 for a 640. Last I saw, that ad was listed in Kentucky. She is a real person , as my PO MO was cashed. I had the PO and SAPD looking into this. So far, no word. I even emailed ATF

I don't even look for 640s anymore, just so I don't have to see that scam ad

Lots of scams on Armslist even local which is usually what I search, I just flag them as a scam. Just last week a guy had a NIB 27-2 nickel looked mint and his description was pretty good as he knew when made checkering and all the other stuff for $550. If you know where to find out year made and all the specs for the gun you know its worth more than 550 bucks. Scam. I like the FN Scar 17's that are new with Eotech's for $1700

When you do a face to face on Armslist.... Take your gun with you and meet in a public place...The seller knows you are bringing cash.. or take an armed buddy with you...

Us Forumites would just be better off selling & trading here in the Classifieds.

Saw one the other day on armslist, the seller had two Boss Abercrombie & Fitch 20 gauge shotguns for 3k each a 1937 and a 1953. I figured it was too good to be true but I was ready to hit the bank and withdraw from my retirement. I thought the pics looked familiar, turns out they came from one of my favorite eye candy sites.

If it was real it would have been like hitting the lottery.

I've bought and sold on Armslist and have yet to run in to any scams. My transactions are always face to face, I require ID from the buyer (usually a current DL and CHL) and we meet in a public place. When I sell, I also do a bill of sale. I state all of this up front in my ad, and if someone wants to skirt any of that, then the sale is off.

Common sense must be at a peak when doing online sales. If a price or deal seems too good to be true, it probably is. If I contact a seller and they act weird, I'm done. So far, all of my transactions have been very positive and I've met some great folks in the process.

I will say I had a guy who contacted me twice on two different sales. He is not in my state, so an FFL would have to be involved. He tried to tell me I could sell it to him across state lines without an FFL, I told him more than once that that is illegal. He persisted and I finally told him to take a hike and reported his user ID to Armslist. I don't consider it a scam, just an idiot.
