Usually I agree but when it is a firearm, I believe in keeping an eye on it.
I have a new pistol enroute to a friend who is my FFL. Last Tuesday I got notified that my pistol was being shipped, from an adjoining state, USPS Priority with Signature required. As per my luck my friend/FFL was leaving town but I was going to be feeding/watering & de-watering his dog 3 times a day the 2 days he was going to be gone. Thursday morning I got to my friend's house less than 5 minutes after the USPS carrier left a delivery attempt form in his mailbox that said "No Access to Delivery Location". WTH? My concern now is there was NO further attempt to make delivery on Friday or Saturday, as his wife has been home since they returned Thursday PM. There have been no further tracking entries since Thursday. There was no notification that the package would be held at the Post Office for pickup.
I caught my mail carrier this morning and he advised that even if I went down to the Post Office, they could not release it to me, since I am not the addressee and have no connection to that address, other than being a family friend.
Update: At least my package/firearm was finally located at the Post Office when my friend/FFL contacted the counter. The clerk had no explanation or excuse for why the carrier had not BOTHERED to make delivery again the next day as is their policy.
Now back to the regularly scheduled USPS bashing session.
