this was written by an Australian Police Officer named Ed Chenel:

It has now been 12 months since gun owners in Australia were forced by a new law to surrender 640,381 personal firearms to be destroyed by our own government, a program costing Australia taxpayers more than $500 million dollars.

The first year results are now in:
Australia-wide, homicides are up 6.2 percent,
Australia-wide, assaults are up 9.6 percent;
Australia-wide, armed robberies are up 44 percent
In the state of Victoria.....
lone, homicides with firearms are now up 300 percent...

Australian politicians are at a loss to explain how public
safety has decreased, after such monumental effort and expense was expended in 'successfully ridding Australian society of guns

We may never see these Stats on our TV news or in the Newspapers?? We someday, the way voting in elections has been going, might experience something like this

Good post and the data is mirrored around the world where disarming the general population has been the rule. Now, how do we quit preaching to the choir and get those hell bent of stripping us of our rights to listen? That's not a rhetorical question...I really want to know.

Bogus!

This is not factual.

Factual response would be that the Aussies never had a lot of guns, never had a Constitutional right to have weapons, never had a high gun violence rate. They can not prove that grabbing the guns saved a life. They do know that a woman walking alone is about 4X more likely to get raped than one in the U.S.

AUSTRALIA: MORE VIOLENT CRIME DESPITE GUN BAN

It is a common fantasy that gun bans make society safer. In 2002 -- five years after enacting its gun ban -- the Australian Bureau of Criminology acknowledged there is no correlation between gun control and the use of firearms in violent crime. In fact, the percent of murders committed with a firearm was the highest it had ever been in 2006 (16.3 percent), says the D.C. Examiner.

So you are saying the link dougb1946 posted is incorrect about 2009 statistics? I have no idea what NCPA is but looks to be legit or is it like the National Enquirer.

Not commenting upon that absent more info but the OP "info" is more than a decade old and not factually based or statistically viable.

snopes.com: Australian Guns Stats

The above linky will shed some light on the topic.

Hope this is useful.

It's called VOTE.....No one bought my vote, although I was out voted. But I tried...The NRA may lobby on my behalf. But if my vote could have voted the right person into office in the first place, then I/we wouldn't have to rely on the ones who are in office right now making those decisions you and I disagree on.

Hey..This is 2013...Elections are only 18 months away for 2014.

Your vote can put the right person in the law makers seat.

I might be poor, but I don't need anyone to buy me a new cell phone for my vote!!!!!!

to Big D,
did check facts, even Snopes states that "small, mixed grab bag of short-term statistics" signifying little. But all the organizations that want more gun control state that the data proves gun control works. Picture this, Yes real facts: in 1996 when law was passed there were 354 homicides for the whole country, 1999 385, but 2007 282. These numbers statically prove nothing out of millions of people. I believe we (USA) have these kind of numbers in major cities not the whole country added together. The Washington Post claims reading the same data that "it" worked. But the Chicago Tribune states that "it" didn't.
I even read factchecker.org. Both sides of Gun control are using "facts" to better their position. I thought it was better to post and talk about it, than know nothing about it.
