I picked up a pair of banana grips with the idea of using them on a Bodyguard or a Mod. 60. When the grips are tightened the seem at the inside opens a bit. Were these grips designed for a specific time frame of J frame? THANKS for the help.

They should work on either of your J's nicely. There are many mismatched and reject grips floating around.
S&W woodshop used a marker pen on that era grip on the inside with corresponding numbers to keep panels together. Do the numbers match?
You may be able to modify an edge somewhere to make the gap close properly. It's kinda like a puzzle - you need to study it and determine why the gap is produced.

No numbers on the inside of the grips. There was a block "3" stamped on the back of one of the grips. I have stripped what was left off of the old finish. I do some woodworking and had the same idea you have, slight modifications in the inside edge of one or both parts. Thanks for your help, I have learned again from the forum.

I didn't have a problem when I put them on my M638. They fit perfectly and feel good when shooting too. Is it possible there is something under the grips causing them to bulge? Maybe they are tightened too much...

I had a set that were the exact same way!!
I offered them as a Karma & with a bit of widdling could be made to fit properly..
I'll have to check with BIG45 & see how he faired on these grips, I thought about cutting them down into factory Wood Boot Grips..
