Mrs. Sheepdawg and I moved from Memphis to Demorest, Georgia last August. Our new abode is about 10 miles from Camp Currahee/Camp Toccoa, where the story of "Easy Company" the 506th regiment of the 101st Airborne, is told in the Stephen Ambrose book and the HBO miniseries Band of Brothers started. Been wanting to go to the museum located in Toccoa Ga. for a while and Mrs. Dawg approved. Small museum at the Amtrak station but Lord if you liked the book or the miniseries like I do well worth looking into. It's not everyday you can be within a few feet of a Medal of Honor or a brick from Hitler's Berghof. The museum has some other small displays but the main gist is Band of Brothers.

What was pleasing was the families we saw going through. Today's youngsters need to see how good they have it and what real men look like. My dad was a WW2 vet, he wouldn't talk about the front, this place gives me a taste of what he saw in France. The first picture is Easy Company relaxing at the Berghof, drinks provided by Adolf. Notice it's signed. Major Dick Winters, the main character, is on the top just a little right of center. Many other names mentioned in the miniseries. Great day spent around so many historical items

That is great!! What a bunch of real heroes. An amazing story. Thanks for posting.

Daughter lives close by, have been a few times. Museum has small wooden out building that was their HQ, taken down in France and sent to museum. Was offered a job there, but thats another story….

Been there a few time. Great museum! They have the horse stalls the Paratroopers were housed in. Walked around the old camp grounds, nothing left, its just woods now. The best was the hike up Currahee, three miles up and three miles down. Ran into two fully outfitted re-enactors doing the climb too. I mean fully outfitted, boots, packs, jumpsuits, helmets, etc including a M1 and a Thompson MG. It was a wonderful day of reminisces but the hike wore me out.
