I have my DVR set to record anything with Jimmy Stewart in it, and the other day “Bandolero!” was snared. 1968 western, mostly notable for Raquel Welch in all her glory. Jimmy helps Deano Martin escape a hanging and stuff ensues.

Another favorite, George “Dragline” Kennedy, plays the Sheriff July Johnson, assisted by his trusty Deputy Roscoe. One of the outlaws is named Dee.

If you’re a fan of Lonesome Dove (published in 1985) those names might sound familiar.

Larry McMurtry didn’t have anything to do with the 1968 movie, but he must have been a fan.

I have a second home on Fort Clark near Brackettville TX. Bandelero! was filmed at Alamo Village which was built just north of Brackettville as a movie set for the original 1960 John Wayne version of The Alamo. There have been quite a few movies , TV series, and TV commercials filmed there over the years, but I don't think much has been done there recently. Alamo Village was operated as a tourist attraction until about 10 years ago.
