All of the BOA branches in my area ( Brevard county, FL) are effectively closed. Only the atm’s are available.........no drive through teller, as no staff is on site. You have to e-mail them to arrange an appointment to get access to your safe deposit box. All due to the covid fiasco. Anyone else dealing with local banks that have adopted this foolish business model? I’m thinking that when they reopen, there will be a flood of people taking their business elsewhere. Who wants to be waiting in line at an atm when they start limiting withdrawals?!........... Not me!!!

First, COVID is not a fiasco. Second, many banks across the country are closed because of the virus as are other businesses. Where you been?

These days it would be prudent to plan ahead because of such closures. And who says people will close their accounts? A run on cash? Not likely to happen.

I think you’re worried over nothing.

A coworker was in central California last week and needed to do some heavy business. She had to drive 50 miles to find an open branch. Apparently the number of sick staff is such that they decided to consolidate staff in one big one, relatively centrally located for the area. It's not only the staff sickness, but the overhead of keeping the place sanitized.

It is the way of things just now.

Before they abruptly closed my local branches, masks were required and everyone maintained their social distancing. They even had a doorman to let people in and out the front door. Some folks are wary about having to make cash withdrawals at walk up atm’s and every now and then, the printer won’t cough up a receipt. I think it is more about furloughing employees to cut costs. Hopefully, this is not the new normal.

Bank of America has sucked big time for many years now.
I may move my business account to the Sterling bank and trust across the street that has remained open! All branches open!

Yes, all closed around here. I stopped in regularly to get rolls of quarters for change at work and laundry.

One bank branch I deal with has me order Golden Dollars through the drive-in window. I put the paper money in the pneumatic tube carrier, drive around to the front door and a teller brings the Golden Dollars out to me.

Not one single BOA remains open in the county where I live. I drive 25 miles to the next nearest branch. BOA doesn't seem to care as they are "too big to fail." PNC isn't any better. And it's such a hassle to switch banks.

Not BOA, but our local bank just emailed us that the lobby tellers are back, but access is only for masked customers.

BOA seems to have determined the banking traffic for that particular area is not worth staffing this makes me wonder if the bank employees have been utilized at other offices? In my area First Horizon Bank has been doing drive thru only by appointment only for the inside lobby. First complaint it appears or looks like a daycare center with all the kids playing inside the locked bank clearly visible while waiting to complete my transaction at the drive up. I think many business are exploiting COVID unnecessarily and taking advantage. The banking industry being one of them.

They are being bought up by the big banks. Mine was recently bought and now follows the regular bank model. PenFed also, if I am not mistaken, is "bank owned." Way of the future. Joe

Luckily we have a good Credit Union here. Since purchasing our new home, we wanted some improvements made, so we asked for a home equity loan on our other home from the bank that gave us the loan for the new house. Interest was over 7%.
We declined and I called the Credit Union and they said I could have the loan for 2.77% interest.

I foolishly bought a truck on credit in 1993. When I paid it off, BOA had lost the title. I learned two very valuable lessons from this. 1) Don’t do business with BOA, and 2)Don’t buy a vehicle if you can’t pay cash for it.

I use Wells Fargo. Their branches are semi-closed, meaning that the drive-thru lanes are still operating, and if there is a need for specific inside services, such as safe deposit box access or any transactions requiring contact with a bank officer, you must set up an appointment if it can't be handled over the phone or by eMail. I have needed to set up appointments for inside services at my local branch four times since April. It works OK.

"2)Don’t buy a vehicle if you can’t pay cash for it." I never have and I never will.

Another ‘problem’ with BoA...

...was found last week when I attempted to deposit a check at one of their ATM’s. Said ATM was at the entrance to a closed office in the heart of the state capital...literally across the street from the State House in a very highly trafficked (pedestrian) area.

ATM was functional but could make a deposit. That has never been a problem before.

Had to resort to a mobile deposit via my iPhone But it is (was) much easier to do so in person or via an ATM.

Be safe...be well.

One of the advantages of having 5 safes is that I eliminated the need for a safe deposit box years ago.

Well what do you know. When I drove by my local BOA branch, I spotted cars in the drive through, and a guard/doorman out front. I parked to have a chat with the guard. He said that the lobby was open with appointment, but they had tellers inside to handle normal drive through business. Kind of getting back to normal. Perhaps the gangster banksters are following this thread...........hah!
