else make their own ?

i boil some vinegar and add some chopped up hot peppers and let it sit in covered glass jar for 3 weeks . drain off liquid and have base , along with tomato sauce , for my sauce.
other ingredients added are brown sugar , molasses , and some special hot sauce i order in to add some heat . a small amount of apple juice , depending on the size of the batch of sauce you are making , can add a little bit of tang to it also.

in my own opinion , one of the good things is you can adjust the amount of sweetness `and heat depending on who is coming to share the q with and weather it is going to be put on pork , beef or chicken.

what do the rest of you q'ers & smokers use ?
how many just buy their own and what is the most popular brand ?

i used kc masterpiece for quite a while and when i use store sauce now , which isnt very often , it is usually bullseye ...... it is the only one i have found that doesnt have the high frutcose corn syrup in it !

I like to add apple sauce and chopped onions to my BBQ mix (my mix is based on whatever I can lay my hands on in the kitchen). On cooking with the meat, they both caramelize to yield a very good addition to the taste of your sauce.

We order rubs and sauces from some of the famous BBQ places around the country. All of them have web sites so it's as easy as a couple clicks. It's fun to try the different styles and compare them. Not the cheapest way to go but real good eating.

If forced to store bought, I use 4 parts KC Masterpiece Original cut with 1 part honey. Real good on BB's.

I like KC Masterpiece but I add Louisiana Cajun Spice and a little Laughing Bull hotsauce to it.

Grew up with homemade, never had store-bought
until I went to someone else's house

Still use the "Family Recipe" but have modified it some

I learned to make a traditional eastern North Carolina BBQ sauce 35 years ago. Haven't bought any store bought BBQ sauce since.

While this vinegar based delicacy is intended for pork, it works well for all meats. And, not a drop of corn syrup to be found in real BBQ sauce.

didnt realize ....

most people made their own.
m1 gunner sauce sounds like mine somewhat.

my own sauce can be pretty sweet &/or i can turn up the heat with the amount of hot pepper sauce i use.
use tomato sauce to balance out the other ingrediants.

good bar-b-q-ing to all and a great day also

I like "Smokehouse" a local place here in KC. If I couldn't get that Id go with "Gates" hot.

No offense to anyone but KC Masterpiece was good when it first came out (mid 80's) but as soon as it became popular and they mass produced it they royally screwed it up. Its totally different than it was "back in the day".
