Have a neighbor who has a dog that used to bark at you, chase cars, etc. All of sudden the dog stopped al this bad behavior.

I stopped by the other day when my neighbor was out working in his yard. The conversation went something like this,

Bill, Hi Bruce, what have you done to your dog. She used to be a real problem for walkers, other dogs, cars, etc.

Bruce: Nothing really Bill, I just put an anti-barking collar on her.

Bill: Boy, It sure works. She is now docile, almost friendly, calm and nice.

Bruce, Yeah, Bill, If I had any idean it would have worked that good, I'd have put one on my wife!

Unfortunately dogs vary in their "trainability" My chocolate Lab that was a very sweet dog was stupid as sticks and dumb as dirt, She did manage to figure out that when the collar was on it was a no bark time. Soon as it was off... BARK BARK BARK BARK BARK. Guess she wasn't so stupid after all.. With wives, Go there if you dare..

I do not see how the no bark collar made the dog docile. I have one. It works on the vibration from the dog barking. Jumping around has no effect on it.

We tried one on our cocker spaniel and it made her as neurotic as hell. No fooling, we actually had to give her doggy tranquilizers. As part of the training protocol, you were eventually supposed to remove the battery to the collar, and the dog was supposed to cease barking because the anti-barking collar was on. No dice. The dog was clever enough to figure out when the batter was out of the collar and would bark accordingly. I even tried substituting a dead battery in the collar thinking that maybe the weight of the battery, or lack thereof, was cuing the dog. Dumb dog, dumber me as the score is now dog=1, me=0.

Dave

Oh man!!! I need one of those, our neighbors big ol' dog barks non-stop!!! I am contemplating a steak with a little surprise in it at this point? J/K but it freaking drives me crazy, I actually went out last night and sprayed my hose over the fence at where I assumed the dog was. Shut him up for about 10 minutes and then right back to barking. Maybe I should buy one of those collars and throw it over the fence?! =)

Uh, you may want to re-think that...we had some real jerk (renter) neighbors who my wife saw throw water over our fence onto our dog. I knew a SWAT Team Leader (Sgt.) on the local PD and called and asked him for advice. He didn't hesitate a second and suggested I call 311 (non-urgent police calls) and file a report. Iddid and within 30 minutes, 2 squad cars and 4 officers responded. They got our side of the story, and then got the neighbor's side. They told the neighbors that what they did constituted cruelty to animals, and that they would be responsible for ANY injury or illness that occurred to any of our pets - indoors or outdoors. It didn't improve the ambience between us (like there was any to begin with), but it stopped those jacka##es from bothering the dogs. The police were fantastic and made it a point to cruise the neighborhood several times a day for a few days afterwards.

Regards,

Dave
