Just cleaning up the 15-22 last night, and yee gad's, it has the dreaded barrel ring.
Have put a pile of rounds through it lately, kids, grand-kids, nephews, all taking turns.
Someone must have had a dud, and didn't know to check the barrel.
There does not seem to be a loss in accuracy, but damn it bugs me just knowing it's there.
Anyone know what a replacement barrel costs?

Thanks avery

You talking bout a bulge in your barrel?

I'm guessing a bulge, the ring would be under the handguard where I can't see the outside of the barrel.
I noticed it when passing a cleaning jag through it.
Doubt it's a warranty job. LOL

Just make sure it's not lead build up. I thought the same thing once after shooting them nasty wildcats. Turns out it was a bunch of lead built up. Took about an hour to get it all out, but luckily no bulge.

When the jag gets to that spot it loses resistance, a loose spot in the barrel.

Where along the barrel is the "loose spot"? I'm not very familiar with bulges caused by bad, uh, explosions, in the barrel, but I would have expected it to be right where the shell ends, and of course the barrel is unrifled and larger for the length of the shell, and a bit more.

I think he meant a round didn't leave the barrel and the next round slams into it causing a bulge. That's too bad. I guess you could have it dye-pined or to be super sure get another barrel. Sorry to hear that.

Shooting again after a squib can and usually does cause a bulged barrel. It just happened to a buddy of mine with his Remington .17HMR. It also happened to me when I was a kid with a beautiful model 62A that was given to me that day by my grandfather. Gotta keep em somewhat clean.

Yup, see this fairly often in old rimfires.

I haven't measured it, but probably bulged a little past half way.

The nephews like to rattle off the rounds, I figure they had a squib, racked it and kept on shooting. A more experienced person would know to check it out.
Kids!!!! lol

I got my kids watching for it as well. Happened to my oldest at the range he stopped mid mag, I asked him if it shot, he said yeah but it felt "funny" broke it down and sure enough it didn't make it out. Got it home and swedged it out. Pretty easy with a 5" barrel. I'd rather not have to do it with the long ones.

I load very light loads for my wife's Model 66, taught her to watch for the squib. Same thing, she had one that didn't feel right. Sure enough, had one stuck. Amazing how hard they are wedged in the barrel.

Just checked the barrel, the bulge is about 6" from the muzzle.
You can't see the bulge, but a small straight edge shows a very slight rise.

I did it to me 1911. You can get the barrel rolled smooth again. It won't affect the accuracy. (or at least it didn't for my 230 grain TC rounds, may be different for a .22) still shooting minute of spray paint can at 75m.

Or it might be a good time to fork out $200 and get it SBR'd to before the bulge :)
