Can someone explain to me what this shroud is over the barrel of another .22 AR and an AAC Element suppressor? How does it attach and is there a benefit other than cosmetics? Anyone have pics of anything similar on a 15/22? Thanks.

I belive that is a Tactical Solutions upper with a 10-12" barrel. To make it a legal 16" barrel, they welded a "flash hider" to it to make it legal. Intentionally, they made it large enough to screw a suppressor onto to barrel, inside the "flash hider".;)

The shroud or flashhider counts toward barrel length if it is unable to be removed/permanent. i.e. welded, etc.

Tactical Solutions AR-22 SB-X dedicated .22LR complete upper for an AR-15 offer a shorter length without the paperwork of an SBR. The AR-22 SB-X has an overall bore length of 12.25" but has an overall length of 16.5" due to the permanently attached shroud which will house up to a 1" outside diameter suppressor. SB-X Barrel is machined from 6061 T6 billet aluminum and have a barrel diameter of .920. A 1 in 16" twist chrome moly button rifled liner makes this an accurate and reliable choice for any shooter

thanks for the info---how exactly does this apply to the M&P 15-22? this is a dedicated thread...just saying

Now I get it. It's a new upper with that shroud extending past a threaded barrel. It's permanent, so it counts as barrell length so no SBR stamp. Thanks.

The information about barrel length, shrouds etc is general and would apply to 15-22s. And he did request pics of 15-22s with something similar.
