I ordered a bunch of their coated bullets. They arrived today. Ordered some 200 gr FN which I can use in the 45 Colt and 45 ACP. Also some 124gr 9mm. Bullets seem nice and well coated. Will have to see how they shoot.

As I have not shot my 45 Colt Mt Gun in a while I loaded some of them up, In honor of the occasion and the pretty colors I used a healthy dose of Trail Fart Powder.:D (Plus I am trying to use up the 9 oz jar I have);) I think it is made from wet Cowboy boots or something.

My regular load is 250 gr with Unique. These will be fun to shoot and see if any smoke or leading.

Rule3,

If you want to step up the loads, try the RED/COPPER coated projectiles from Bayou,
they can withstand more heat I understand.

Donnie just recently started offering choices, RED/COPPER
Gold, or his old standby GREEN also known as GATOR SNOT.

The 9mm are Red/Copper. I did not know the color made a difference on velocity? Is that on the web site? I just ordered did not really look around. I didn't want Gold they looked cheesy:)

Rule3,

For the self coaters even more colors and characteristics are available.

The Market INTEREST in the USA has caused the HI-TEK manufacturer

to raise the level of development of his resins and their attributes.

The gold actually looks quite nice, I have the older GOLD that he, Donnie, may be using.

There is a new GOLD 1035 that is out that the coating is HARDER I believe.

A BLACK 1035 is now in the USA, It's Black with Gold Speckles,

I haven't coated any of MY CASTS with it as of yet.

Really will look great in a Nickle Case.

All this may sound much too YUPPY for you, but I'm no yuppy.

Just a color coordinated retiree havin' fun.

I've already loaded BRICK RED and GREEN wadcutters for the xmas shooting season. LOL!:;)

Welcome to the dark side.
Don't be afraid to put the power to them.
Everything you've learned about shooting lead is essentially useless.
it doesn't care about hot charges or powders that never played well with lead.
Try to lead the pipe. When you fail to make it a smooth bore, you will never go back.

I have not read anything that indicates different colors withstand higher velocity or temperatures (at least on Bayou's site) BLACK would be my preferred color.

I plan on loading them just like I normally do. As I mentioned I need to get some other revolver calibers like 158 gr SWC for the 357 Mag, will crank those up.
I have enough bullets for 41 and 44 Mag.

Rule3,

Over at the Cast Boolits site under reloading

Look for COATINGS AND ALTERNATIVES

About 186 pages of posts about HI-TEK and

a couple other deals that concern TRADITIONAL POWDER COATING methods and powders.

Wonderful reading.

yes,and plenty to sort out and confirm.
No matter how you look at it, nuances or not, we are far less limited at loading time for it.
It's better killing through chemistry:D

I'll leave it up to you to provide the shortened Cliff Notes versions:D

The basics ...
it does not matter too much which color, or coating type at work.
It will hold fine and dandy to velocities higher than you can get out of any handgun.
Fear no powder. Even if you have deemed a particular powder useless with lead, the issues are mitigated.
Titegroup being a good example of one such powder.

The 1450 speed limit is hard to dislodge from ones cast load criteria.
Might take some time to get over it, but jump in the fire and try a 125 grain 357 over H110. Let it prove it's worth to you.

I am shooting 115 gr plain base Bayou 30 cal at about (Not chronographed yet) 1850 fps with no leading in one rifle and zero success in another due to poor accuracy.

I have 1.000 button nose wadcutter I plan to load to max 38 sp velocities. They are red. It really doesn't matter, I am color blind.

Watching for your success.

So am I! Red /Green:cool: Not totally but enough to mess me up with multi colors. You do not want me working on your telephone cable junction box!!

Results. 6 Shots 25 yards offhand over the chrony. 12 grains unique. AV 1858. Gold bayou 115 gr 30 cal.

David R,

Have you shot any of your COATED 38 Special Wadcutters yet?

You were going to try to load them to MAX?

I shoot them BY THE HUNDREDS indoors with a reduced TARGET LOAD

of 2.5 grains of Bullseye powder.:)

(MY CAST/COATED 148 grain Button-Nosed Wadcutters).

Moonman, I usually shoot HBWC for target. For fun and sometimes for SD I load solid base wadcutters to max.

I have an H&G (Saco?) #50 mold I spent years trying to get them to shoot as good as a HBWC but it never happened.

I usually do my reloading in the winter, but I am a little behind.

Right now I need to load all my brass for the 308 and my son's 7.65 Argentine Mauser. These are both 12 grains unique and a lead bullet. The .313" size 130 grain are conventional lubed lead. We will get to Powder coated when they are available.

My last order I got some 105 grain 380s and some 38 cal 158 SWC. Both look really good. I just need time to load them.

I loaded 500 255 grain powder coated Bayou bullets in my 46 colt with 9 grains unique. They do not shoot as well as my own cast which I no longer make.

2.5 BE with a solid base WC is a little light, I usually load them with 3.0 bullseye or Red Dot (promo)

David

David,

I load the 2.5 for 25 ft and for the 2800 rounds per pound, just because (old man, open sights).;)

I also load them up to 3.1 of Bullseye, it's ALL JUST FOR FUN.

I have some "ZERO" 148 HBWC that I picked up at Camp Perry a couple weeks ago.:):):):)

Was very impressed with how fast I got them. Ordered Thursday was at my door Saturday! Packed well, priced right and I did a smash and burn test with a propane torch, The coating holds up!!:D

Have not been able to go shoot yet as it has been raining every day (heavy!) Our range is a swamp also this time of year.:)

I found that the 3.8 gr 231 behind the 124 gr. 9mm went slower, so Upped the charge to 4.0 and 4.2. The 4.2 ran 1042 fps and a SD of 10, and shot into 2.0" at 10 yards, so I'm, happy with that one. I also had the 225 gr. TC 45 loaded over 5.7 gr 231 and it punched a one hole group from my 25-2 at 10 yards and about a 2.5" group form a 5" 1911 while making a 171 power factor and shot so clean I didn't bother to clean the 1911 after just 10 shots.
